Publisher's summary

Charley Davidson, Grim Reaper Extraordinaire, is back in this sexy, suspenseful novel of supernatural shenanigans.

When Charley is rudely awakened in the middle of the night by her best friend who tells her to get dressed quickly and tosses clothes out of the closet at her, she can’t help but wonder what Cookie’s up to. Leather scrunch boots with a floral miniskirt? Together? Seriously?

Cookie explains that a friend of hers named Mimi disappeared five days earlier and that she just got a text from her setting up a meet at a coffee shop downtown. They show up at the coffee shop, but no Mimi. But Charley finds a message on the bathroom wall. Mimi left a clue, a woman’s name. Mimi’s husband explains that his wife had been acting strange since she found out an old friend of hers from high school had been found murdered a couple weeks prior. The same woman Mimi had named in her message.

Meanwhile, Reyes Alexander Farrow (otherwise known as the Son of Satan. Yes. Literally) has left his corporeal body and is haunting Charley. He’s left his body because he’s being tortured by demons who want to lure Charley closer. But Reyes can’t let that happen. Because if the demons get to Charley, they’ll have a portal to heaven. And if they have a portal to heaven… well, let’s just say it wouldn’t be pretty. Can Charley handle hot nights with Reyes and even hotter days tracking down a missing woman? Will Cookie ever get a true fashion sense? And is there enough coffee and chocolate in the world to fuel them as they do?

One of the best of the paranormal books out there

Darynda Jones is a very talented author who is getting better with each book of this series.
The character of Charley Davidson, the heroine, is a great creation. There are so many aspects of her character and she is discovering more about herself and her powers in each book. The hero is out of this world, forgive the pun, a guy who is supposed to be created from evil but is in fact one of the toughest fighters for good. This series and the supporting characters are very unique. There are some serious issues but packed in great humor, and it just keeps getting more and more interesting as the series goes on. Looking forward to the next book.

Love the series. Can't wait to get the next one.

Would you consider the audio edition of Second Grave on the Left to be better than the print version?

I did not get the print version so I can't compare. However, I am very pleased with the audio version. The narrator does an excellent job with the characters and brings to life the witty personality of Charlie, the main character.

What other book might you compare Second Grave on the Left to and why?

Unfortunately, I can't think of any comparisons. I would be listening to those books If I knew.

What about Lorelei King’s performance did you like?

King is perfect for the job. She does a good job differentiating each of the characters and bringing out each of their different personalities. She does an excellent job with the main character.

Any additional comments?

I am really enjoying this series. The stories are fast, entertaining, funny and sexy.

Inconsistent credibility

After reading the first book I was fascinated by the characters. This sequel seems like it was rushed past the editors and was not nearly as refined a story line.

Great fun and joy to listen too.

Enjoyed the first book and I really like the story. Very enjoyable and found myself laughing out loud many times. Charley has some very interesting thoughts and loves to express herself. Lorelei King does a great job in narration.

The Fun Continues!!

I really liked this book it's fun to listen to. The people (and ghosts) continue to grow and learn more about themselves and those around them. While the end of this book was kind of sad, I have to get the next one to see what happens. Over all this seems to be a fun series and I can't wait to see what happens next.

Becoming My Favorite Female Detective

I am loving this series. Charley Davidson is quickly becoming my favorite female investigator. I've listened to the Stephanie Plum books by Janet Evanovich for years and loved them but lately those books have lost their luster. But never fear, looks like Charley is ready to take Stephanie's place. What I think makes Charley better than Stephanie is that she's smart and figures things out whereas Stephanie just falls in to a lot of the answers. Plus, Charley's just cool. This books are hilarious but it's not because Charley's doing stupid stuff. It's because Charley's sarcastic and smart. The one-liners are great. Plus, Reyes is super-hot. And, I'm holding out hope for Garrett Swopes. Charley's sidekick and neighbor, Cookie, is fun and smart. I really appreciate that Darynda Jones writes books with two smart women in them that are not reliant on the men in their lives to make things happen or get them out of trouble. I can't wait to get further along in these audiobooks.

And completely coincidental, these books are narrated by Lorelei King who also narrates the Stephanie Plum series. As always, Ms. King does a wonderful job with the narration. She's definitely in my top three narrators.

If you're looking for something fun and entertaining to get you through your daily commute or exercise routine, give these books a try and I guarantee the time will fly.

Wonderfully entertaining and humorous UF series!

This is the second Charley Davidson book and it was a very fun continuation of this humorous urban fantasy series! Right now the 11th book in this series, Eleventh Grave in Moonlight, is scheduled for a January 2017 release.

I listened to this on audiobook and the narrator does an awesome job. This is one of those series I would highly recommend listening to on audiobook if you enjoy audiobooks.

I enjoyed this book even more than the first book in the series. These books remind a bit of Molly Harper’s Jane Jameson series in tone, but I am actually liking this series a lot better than that one.

There is a ton of quirky humor in here and I just love Charley and her inability to keep her mouth shut or be afraid of anything. In fact there are quite a few wonderful characters in here, even the side-characters have a lot of depth and are super fun to read about.

This book is mostly investigative but there is quite a bit of action as well. I love that each of these books solves one mystery but there is also a story that continues between books involving Charley’s powers and Reyes. We learn a lot more about both Charley’s and Reyes’s powers in this book and the whole thing is getting increasingly interesting.

The only thing that I have a bit of trouble getting past in this series is the fact that if spirits can see Charley so well then why isn’t Charley constantly swamped by ghosts? I find this a bit unbelievable but am willing to let it slide because I just have so much darn fun listening to these books.

Overall I loved this book and found it incredibly entertaining. So far I am really loving this whole series (of course I am only at book 2 of 11). I would highly recommend to fans of investigative urban fantasy who enjoy some humor in their books.

Love it

I am loving this series. The actual romance is slow going but the story itself is entertaining, funny, and witty. It's like mixing the verbal wit of Gilmore Girls, mixed with action of Sherlok Homes, and a little steam sprinkled in.

I'm in love with Reyes

LOL. I am truely just drawn into these books. She has a third book out, and after the ending of this book, I'm dying to read it, but Audible doesn't have it. I'm going to have to go out and (*gasp*) spend money buying it at Amazon. I love the mix of humor, mystery, romance, and the supernatural in this book. Actually, I just finished listening to books one and two a second time.
