Publisher's summary

Agent Franks of the U.S. Monster Control Bureau is a man of many parts - parts from other people, that is. Franks is nearly seven feet tall and all muscle. He's nearly indestructible. Plus he’s animated by a powerful alchemical substance and inhabited by a super-intelligent spirit more ancient than humanity itself. Good thing he’s on our side. More or less.

Sworn to serve and protect the United States of America from all monsters by one of the country’s founding fathers, Franks has only one condition to the agreement: No matter what the government learns of him, no matter what is discovered concerning his odd physiology or the alchemy behind the elixir that made him, the government is never, ever allowed to try and make more like him. Such is absolutely forbidden and should the powers-that-be do so, then the agreement is null and void.

Project Nemesis: in a secret location, using sophisticated technology and advanced genetic engineering, the director of the very agency Franks works for is making more like him. And the director is not content with making one. Nope, he’s making 13. Now all bets are off, and Hell hath no fury like a monster betrayed. Particularly if that monster happens to be an undying killing machine capable of taking out vampires and werewolves with one hand tied behind his back.

What was that part about the valley of death?

Oh, yeah, "Yay, though he walks through the shadow of the valley of death, Franks fears no evil. 'Cause he's the meanest son of a bitch IN the valley!"

This was a great sequel. I think it is possibly my favorite. Franks is wonderful character. As much as I wondered if we would see the growth in Franks I was just as pleased when I finally saw some. Franks has huge depth, perhaps more than any other character in the MHI Stable.

this many books in, you know what you're getting

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

sure. if you need to pass time, and you'd like to be entertained, but you absolutely can't stand the idea of reading something helps you grow as a person or presents an insight worth pondering on any subject whatsoever... why would you read anything else?

What did you like best about this story?

i like that we got to follow franks around, instead of MHI or Harbinger. not only did i get the correia fix i so badly needed, but i got to mix it up a bit, and play for one of the other teams for a while.

What about Oliver Wyman’s performance did you like?

what's not to like? it was adequate. in fact, it was better than adequate. it was adequate plus 7 percent.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

no. are you serious?

Any additional comments?

break stuff!

Pretty darn good read

this to me was a kicking good story
it was a great story line without so much insanity going on. Like one after another terrible thing going on.
tnx to the author and narrators

Masterfully written; masterfully told.

Any additional comments?

Another fantastic story of the fantastic by one of the best 21st century writers. The story is great and only made greater by the again perfect narration of Oliver Wyman. Even though I buy the print copies, I have to listen to Oliver's rendition of the voices that I've come to know and love. This novel, like "Alpha" does not follow Pitt and instead follows the exploits of the undefeatable Agent Franks. This is a must have novel for fans of the series and if you haven't listened to any of them yet, start with the first one and listen to all of them. You will not be disappointed; I guarantee you.

Entertaining as hell!

What did you love best about Monster Hunter Nemesis?

The development of the lead character. Bad ass arch-angel in a re-tooled meat sack...with a bit of a conscience.

Who was your favorite character and why?

The lead. Franks. By far.

Which scene was your favorite?

The fight against the lead werewolf. Whoa. I wonder if today's Hollywood/CGI tech would do that justice on the big screen. Probably not. Also really liked how early American history was written in. Eventhough the book was all fantasy it was a bit of a stretch for me subscribing to the George Washington character as this revolutionary stud, given that real history writes him as a bit of a douche (IMO) keeping his Virginia plantation alive (read your history...). I think Franks punched him, instead of his horse, in an alternate universe...completely rewriting American history. I would have loooooooooved to have read that version.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Probably not. It's good to break away and come back to it. It's long enough where it has some moderate parts.

Any additional comments?

A good read. Well performed. I love how some of these narrators can keep track of all of the accents of the book's characters. The female voices were a bit cheesey, but I'm not sure how you're supposed to effectively go from the bass of a Franks to female voice. It was serviceable. But, as far as monster books go, loved it.

It is Fun with Frankenstein

What did you love best about Monster Hunter Nemesis?

We finally get to know exactly what Agent Franks is and its more than you expect.

What other book might you compare Monster Hunter Nemesis to and why?

Pretty much any of the other Monster Hunter books, which are all very good.

What does Oliver Wyman bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

He just nails Franks. Gruff bullish and doesn't much care about you unless he gets to hit you, preferably many times

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

It was very enjoyable, laughing once in a while but crying no not really but Agent Franks does grow more as a character. The loss of his son, and mentor have an effect on him. And his descendants????

Frankly...

I enjoyed this audiobook. It was fun to finally find out what Frank is. The foundation is set to explain who Frank becomes in future novels. I have two complaints. (1)Monster Hunter Nemesis is a little hard to follow. There is too much jumping from one topic to another. At times it seemed like a series of short stories or novellas loosely tied together. (2) Oliver Wyman wasn't consistent in his reading. He changed how he was reading character voices. I had to repeat listen often because I'd think he was doing one character but in fact it was someone different.
