Publisher's summary

Agent Franks of the U.S. Monster Control Bureau is a man of many parts - parts from other people, that is. Franks is nearly seven feet tall and all muscle. He's nearly indestructible. Plus he’s animated by a powerful alchemical substance and inhabited by a super-intelligent spirit more ancient than humanity itself. Good thing he’s on our side. More or less.

Sworn to serve and protect the United States of America from all monsters by one of the country’s founding fathers, Franks has only one condition to the agreement: No matter what the government learns of him, no matter what is discovered concerning his odd physiology or the alchemy behind the elixir that made him, the government is never, ever allowed to try and make more like him. Such is absolutely forbidden and should the powers-that-be do so, then the agreement is null and void.

Project Nemesis: in a secret location, using sophisticated technology and advanced genetic engineering, the director of the very agency Franks works for is making more like him. And the director is not content with making one. Nope, he’s making 13. Now all bets are off, and Hell hath no fury like a monster betrayed. Particularly if that monster happens to be an undying killing machine capable of taking out vampires and werewolves with one hand tied behind his back.

I thought I wouldn't like a book about Franks...

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

If you like Larry Correia's other Monster Hunter books - don't let the absence of Pitt put you off. It is just as interesting and full of character. Give it a try!

What does Oliver Wyman bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

The cadence of the reader is so "Tough Guy" but not so exaggerated as to make it silly...

Entertaining

A good read, but too much profanity. Like Wolverine, Boba Fett, & Darth Vader, you think you want the character's backstory, but it might not live up to the hype.

Just keeps getting better

What can I say? From the start I was blown away. Mr. Correia has finally decided to shine the spotlight on the King of All Things Classified, the agent of destruction and my favourite character since book#2, agent Franks.
We are treated to a front seat as he cuts a swath of destruction and mayhem, the likes of which have never been seen in the already over-the-top series and it is glorious. The author has a gift for spinning an undercurrent of clever humour into his narrative so scenes where Franks indulges in incredibly brutal acts of violence against his other-worldly foes are not only shockingly awesome but gleefully entertaining :D. I don't think I've EVER been subjected to such levels of savagery in a book before and I loved every second of it as they are almost always narrated through Frank's unique blend of deadpan humour that had me laughing out loud every couple of minutes.
I'm also in awe at Mr. Correia's ability to weave in complex, well-written characters into an increasingly complex plot that he's been gradually building up and letting unfold as the series has progressed. Fun characters from previous books that you thought were finished are cleverly re-introduced, many lingering questions about the origins of several of them are finally answered and more breadcrumbs are dropped, paving the way for a grand scope in the scheme of things that will be sure to blow our minds!
This is in my opinion the best book of the excellent series thus far and I can't wait for more!

A great universe.

MH Nemesis is the fifth book of the incredibly fun MHI series. This one deals directly with Franks, the taciturn, angry, and downright meanest Agent in the Monster Control Bureau.

The story does not disappoint, we are introduced to an increasing number of characters that are filling the MHI universe with a wide range of interesting sub plots.

The best part of Corriea's storytelling is his villians, and Nemesis has plenty of those. It was very cool hearing about Franks' past and how he came to be. There are some major plot points to the overall series as well, which is building to an epic bunch of new stories.

Corriea makes you both hate and love a character at the same time. He's done it so well with many of the characters, throughout the series, but this books shows it off well. Especially with Franks, Stricken, and Grand Jefferson.

The books remind me of a comic book world, except, instead of super heroes, we get paranormal entities. It's fast moving, enjoyable, and just downright fun.

A note about the performance. I almost felt sorry for Oliver Wyman, because there is plenty of dialogue where two very gravelly voiced characters are yelling at each other. Ouch, that can't be good for the vocal chords, but Wyman pulled it off like a champ.

I enjoy his characterizations and narration very much and I cannot image the series without his touch. He makes the stories really come to life.

Frankenstein versus the wolf man

this is what I like in this series: an excellent storyline, and anyone other than Owen Pitt as the min character. It helps that Franks is a great character in his own right, but it really goes to show how good these stories can get when not held back by the main character.
