Publisher's summary

Dirty Harry meets Twilight. Number 3 in the break-out series and a follow-up to Monster Hunter International and Monster Hunter Vendetta.

Earl Harbinger may be the leader of Monster Hunter International, but he's also got a secret. Nearly a century ago, Earl was cursed to be a werewolf. When Earl receives word that one of his oldest foes, a legendarily vicious werewolf that worked for the KGB, has mysteriously appeared in the remote woods of Michigan, he decides to take care of some unfinished business. But another force is working to bring about the creation of a whole new species of werewolf. When darkness falls, the final hunt begins, and the only thing standing in their way is a handful of locals, a lot of firepower, and Earl Harbinger's stubborn refusal to roll over and play dead.

All around good

The book has great pace with no bla bla filler that describes every little detail, character interplay is interesting so you come to care for the characters & it has some interesting twists on familiar monsters like undead.

Performance is good with different accents, inflections, ect: so you can easly tell characters apart..

It's about monster hunters, in our world.

Favorite in the series so far

Story was great, really rebounded from what i thought was a mediocre second book, i thought about not even continuing the series but i didnt have anything else to read and a long drive ahead of me so i stuck with it and im glad i did. The narrator on the other hand is getting on my nerves. Maybe ive been listening to him for too many hours but somebody needs to teach this guy how to read. He does a great job with the different charecter voices but for some reason he has a really difficult time just reading the narrative parts. He ends every sentance with a higher tone almost like he's asking a question. It is absolutely obnoxious, it makes me cringe.

Harbinger back story

Very amazing back story on Earl. You learn a lot about him becoming a werewolf and how he became Puff exempt.
This is a great side story from the entire MHI gang and will keep you listening all the way till the end with questions about how they will survive all the way.
give this book a good read and enjoy.

Excellent as usual

I have loved every "Monster Hunter" book. If you're looking for rip roaring escapist entertainment it doesn't get any better than this series.

Still going good, despite tiny flaws

What did you like best about Monster Hunter Alpha? What did you like least?

Plot is good, PoVs from various characters is good. The book needs better editing/correcting. The language, while in some places good, in others is repetitive, to the point of actually using the same words in neighboring sentences. The Russian words were almost all wrong (especially the curses). A bit of better research would have helped.

Have you listened to any of Oliver Wyman’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Oliver Wyman is a good reader/actor, the only thing he does irritatingly bad is reading the chapter numbers - there he sounds as though he were retching or something.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

Yes, probably. Although it would probably be drek.

Any additional comments?

Better editing and research. Seriously.Other than that - great ideas, both plot-wise and ideologically.

Earl Harbinger is the baddest werewolf ever.

My favorite of the series, this iteration is a bit of a departure from the others and follows one of my favorite characters from the series, Earl, as he goes to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan to deal with werewolf issues. Earl is a chain-smoking, straight talking, badass werewolf and the leader of Monster Hunter International.

You get some background on Earl sprinkled in with lots of Earl-isms all throughout the story. Once Earl gets fired up and puts the smack down on some pompous ass of a monster or miscellaneous MCB agent, I get a smile on my face and just enjoy the ride. The story is good, but it really takes a back seat to just hearing Earl be Earl.

I almost never re-listen to audiobooks, but I am now half way through my second round and was inspired to tell everyone what a great listen this one is. Do yourself a favor and try this series if only to get to this book.
