Mercenary Kate Daniels and her mate, Curran, the Beast Lord, are struggling to solve a heartbreaking crisis. Unable to control their beasts, many of the Pack’s shape-shifting children fail to survive to adulthood. While there is a medicine that can help, the secret to its making is closely guarded by the European packs, and there’s little available in Atlanta. Kate can’t bear to watch innocents suffer, but the solution she and Curran have found threatens to be even more painful. The European shape-shifters who once outmaneuvered the Beast Lord have asked him to arbitrate a dispute - and they’ll pay him in medicine. With the young people’s survival and the Pack’s future at stake, Kate and Curran know they must accept the offer - but they have little doubt that they’re heading straight into a trap.…

Hello, my name is Teresa and I'm an addict.
Another awesome book by Ilona Andrews. I laugh, I cried, I was so engrossed the book flew by. I love Kate, she is defiantly a kick assery gal. I was annoyed with Curren in this book, but I got over it pretty quickly. The characters really develop in this book. There is lots of tragedy and violence in this book. I'm so glad I gave this series a second chance because I wasn't in love with the first book, but the series only gets better. I do recommend reading in order, this isn't a stand alone series. Narrator is good and she is now Kate in my mind.
At the end there is a deleted scene of Simone's rescue that is mentioned in the book. 1 hr.
I love Kate and I love Curran, and in this story they are working together to do whats best for the pack, but Kate not being a shifter might be the end of her and Curran, will she prove to the pack and the others she will stand by her man?? I hope so..bring on more Kate.. I loved the story
If you have not read this series I believe you will enjoy the characters and the story. This part of series so far is the best, filled with a good mix of action and love story. Somewhat more towards the action which I'm glad about, however with that said I'm sure the listener will enjoy it no matter which they prefer.
I love to read, but I am time-limited. Audible allows me to keep up with all my favorite authors while on the hiking trail. Thanks, Audible!
The plot summary makes this book sound boring, but it isn't. Kate and Curran are never boring. In addition to the Kate and Curran show, we get to hear a lot more about Barrabas. This was a fantastic surprise for me, because he is one of my favorite character's in this series. Renee Raudman is brilliant again.
I usually get bored with these ongoing series, cause they lose their luster after awhile and the characters get stale, but I have to admit this series just gets better. The characters become more endearing, and these authors keep adding to the mystic of this new world they have created. It's so easy to visualize the monsters and the places Andrews takes us to, that the story just seems to flow, so that you don't want it to end.
On the other hand, I did want it to end to see just where Kate and Curran would end up in their relationship. This story dealt with a lot of personal feelings, frustrations, deceit, and heartbreak, along with great choreographed fight sequences. I do like it, that Julie had a minor part in this story, and Kate's emotional struggles were with Curran, and her troubled upbringing, along with more background from Hugh.
Renee Raudman does her usual excellent job of narration. No one else could be Kate and these characters, as she brings them to life with such enthusiasm.
This story just keeps getting better. My only complaint is that it wasn't long enough. I forgot this one was coming and randomly started re-listening to all the other books which took me right to this release, I was SO happily surprised!!!
I laughed and cried, this was Kate's toughest challenge yet and it was close but to say more would be to spoil it for everyone else..
Hope you all enjoy it as much as I did!!
This book takes Kate Daniels and crew overseas to Europe. That's where the majority of the book takes place. It's a refreshing change of scenery, and I think it was a great choice by authors, Ilona and Gordon. There is still plenty of action, intrigue, and romance just in a different setting. Plus, a few new mythical creatures/beings (like were-dolphins and hobbits) were introduced to make things even more interesting.
It definitely did not disappoint. Well worth the use of a credit.
Love the story and eagerly await every story of Post-shift Atlanta. You never know what adventure awaits or what new facet of Kate and Curran's relationship will be revealed. In addition, the cast of characters in their motley crew is expanded in this book. We are introduced to Jim's sister and find out more about peripheral characters from the previous novels--Eduardo the werebuffalo, George (Mahon's daughter), and Aunt B. Another can't put it down, must read from Ilona Andrews!
It really is a good series but it's a bit too easy to predict. Kate seems like one of those intelligent people that lack common sense. I knew who the bad guys were right away and spent the rest of the book wishing she'd wake the hell up and get a clue. The characters are still good though and it's a series I'll keep reading.
