Mercenary Kate Daniels and her mate, Curran, the Beast Lord, are struggling to solve a heartbreaking crisis. Unable to control their beasts, many of the Pack’s shape-shifting children fail to survive to adulthood. While there is a medicine that can help, the secret to its making is closely guarded by the European packs, and there’s little available in Atlanta. Kate can’t bear to watch innocents suffer, but the solution she and Curran have found threatens to be even more painful. The European shape-shifters who once outmaneuvered the Beast Lord have asked him to arbitrate a dispute - and they’ll pay him in medicine. With the young people’s survival and the Pack’s future at stake, Kate and Curran know they must accept the offer - but they have little doubt that they’re heading straight into a trap.…

This story just keeps getting better. My only complaint is that it wasn't long enough. I forgot this one was coming and randomly started re-listening to all the other books which took me right to this release, I was SO happily surprised!!!
I laughed and cried, this was Kate's toughest challenge yet and it was close but to say more would be to spoil it for everyone else..
Hope you all enjoy it as much as I did!!
This book takes Kate Daniels and crew overseas to Europe. That's where the majority of the book takes place. It's a refreshing change of scenery, and I think it was a great choice by authors, Ilona and Gordon. There is still plenty of action, intrigue, and romance just in a different setting. Plus, a few new mythical creatures/beings (like were-dolphins and hobbits) were introduced to make things even more interesting.
It definitely did not disappoint. Well worth the use of a credit.
This book really seems to have moved the storyline forward. It was very cool to see all the familiar characters in an unfamiliar setting, it was nice to get them out of Atlanta. It was also interesting to see how another part of the world is dealing with the world shift toward magic. I love how Kate seems to grow in her magic and her personality with every book. She learns how to do something by trial and error, not just a giant leap. The storyline with the bodyguarding reminds a bit of the earlier books but I love how Kate is in charge because she is the one with the experience. I'll miss the character who didn't make it through the book but I can't wait to see what happens next with this. It'll seem like a long time before the next book comes out. Renee Raudman did a fantastic job as usual. Her voices were consistent with the previous books and she manages to make every character sound distinct.
I have a 40 minute commute each way and with out Audible, I'd go crazy! My fav genre is fantasy and I love a great series!
Kate Daniels is one of my all time fave series. I was excited to see another book in the series! This one is just as good as the rest, with new characters and a new set of plots to uncover! New insights into characters make you want more and more! If you love this series, this book will be satisfy!
Like all these books... love Simone! This is one of the best as the characters are growing up into their relationships.
It ranks in the top five, easily.
The gut punch moment in the beginning of the story, when she is face to face with her enemy un expectedly
I can't say enough about how wonderful Raudman is. Her voice range is outstanding, she has an easy reading style, and can keep pace with the action sene without it feeling forced or over dramatic. I have actually purchased books just because she was the narrator. Her performance in this book was just as great.
The ending is a roller coaster of emotions, but it's such a great listen I don't want to give anything away.
Ilona Andrews is an amazing husband and wife team, I have read everything she/he has written and can honestly say I have never been disappointed. If you like the magic series, I highly recommend the edge series as well.
I really enjoy the whole series, Kate is so perfect, flawed, and compassionate in just the right balance. I enjoy her internal conversations and of course her banter with the beast Lord. I hate that I am now to the point of having to wait for the next book to come to audible. But wait I shall please hurry I want to know what comes next.
I love Kate and I love Curran, and in this story they are working together to do whats best for the pack, but Kate not being a shifter might be the end of her and Curran, will she prove to the pack and the others she will stand by her man?? I hope so..bring on more Kate.. I loved the story
Magic Rises is a little different from the usual installment in the series. The setting is Europe. The action is focused largely on shape-shifter politics. It also develops the story arch of the series by introducing a couple of new characters that will no doubt be around in the future, wrecking havoc with several well established characters and moving along the kate-Curan relationship. It also develops the Hugh de Hombre character and Kate’s back story. If Hugh is on the scene in a big way, dear daddy (Roland) can't be far behind.
I have followed the series since the beginning and enjoy each new installment even more than the last. That pattern continues with this sixth installment. The story grabs you and takes you on a roller coaster ride from the first pages through to the end.
The narrator is excellent. She has been doing the narration for the series almost from the beginning and has honed the character voices well over the years. This installment showcases her craft and skill.
