Publisher's summary

Maud Demille is a daughter of Innkeepers—a special group who provide "lodging" to other-planetary visitors—so she knows that a simple life isn't in the cards. But even Maud could never have anticipated what Fate would throw at her.

Once a wife to a powerful vampire knight, Maud and her young daughter, Helen, were exiled with him for his treachery to the desolate, savage planet of Karhari. Karhari killed her husband, and Maud—completely abandoned by his family—has spent over a year avenging his debts. Rescued by her sister Dina, she's sworn off all things vampire.

Except...in helping Dina save the world, she met Arland, the Marshal of House Krahr, one of the most powerful vampire houses. One thing led to another and he asked for her hand in marriage. She declined. Arland is not used to hearing the word "no," and try as she might, Maud can't just walk away from Arland. It doesn't help that being human is a lot harder for Maud than being a vampire.

To sort it all out, she accepts his invitation to visit his home planet. House Krahr is extremely influential and Maud knows that a woman—a human, with a very questionable past—who's turned down a proposal from its most beloved son won't get a warm reception. Maybe she’s not sure about marrying Arland, but House Krahr isn’t going to decide for her. Maud Demille has never run from a fight, and House Krahr will soon discover that there's a lot more to Maud than they’re expecting.

Great story, but…

I’ve read this book and listened to the original audio version several times. Loved them both! But I doubt I will listen to this “dramatized adaptation” version again. The accents were distracting, and the timing on the narration felt rushed. I really liked the DA versions of the other Innkeeper books, but I’ll go back to the original audio version the next time I listen to this story again

Love love love

I truly can’t express how much i love this author and this series and especially the graphic audio version. Seemed ridiculous buying it when i have the print, digital, and original audiobooks but I’m SOOO glad i did! They’re just something truly marvelous about having the whole cast, sound effects etc. and Maude and Arland’s story is such a fantastic addition to the series

Swept me away

Love the graphic audio of this book- very exciting and perfect to listen to while driving. Some of the sound effects were a little distracting to the dialogue but most added to the story. Love Ilona Andrews and look forward to their next graphic audio!

love this series

I enjoy this world so much, it is great to see it from more than just Dina's point of view. I can't wait to see more of Klaus.

I LOVE the graphic audio version so much more than the other one. However, this one was not on par with the other ones. Maybe it was the narrator not sounding like Maud, even if it was supposed to be her... the woman sounded overly dramatic and wasn't as pleasant in my ear as when Dina is speaking.

I gave the narration four stars anyway, because Graphic Audio is awesome

Loved it!

I just couldn't listen to the narrator they chose for this book, especially after listening to Renee Raudman!! This dramatization tho was superb! I loved everything about it Unless they go back to Ms Raudman I will continue with this format with the future books.

Graphic Audio is awesome!

I have listened to all of Ilona Andrews books, and they are great. the narrator's are spot on. But Graphic Audio is better because it makes, literally, "a movie for your mind". Each voice is different, each scene unfolds in new imaginings, and the pictures in your brain are incredible. the intensity of battle scenes suddenly become more "you are there and here is danger". I love these Graphic Audio renditions when I am not sewing or knitting because I find they are distracting from the craft. I find I either have to pause the story or pause the task until the scene is over .

my fave of series

Absolutely love these full cast recordings of my favorite series by GraphicAudio. Yes, it’s abridged which always makes me sad, but they do a very good job.
This book starts with a condensed perspective of Maud’s time on Karhari, her rescue by Dina et al, and the Draziri siege of Gertrude Hunt.
Then we get to the good part of her personal story when Maud follows Arland to Daesyn where intrigues are afoot and there are future in-laws to win over. And let’s not forget the ripper cushions. In this book it’s not just Maud and Arland, it’s Helen, too.
The full cast recording is wonderful.
Recommend. Enjoy!
