As Denver adjusts to a new master vampire, Kitty gets word of an intruder in the Denver werewolf pack's territory, and she investigates the challenge to her authority. She follows the scent of the lycanthrope through the mountains where she is lured into a trap, tranquilized, and captured. When she wakes up, she finds herself in a defunct silver mine: the perfect cage for a werewolf.
Her captors are a mysterious cult seeking to induct Kitty into their ranks in a ritual they hope will put an end to Dux Bellorum. Though skeptical of their power, even Kitty finds herself struggling to resist joining their cause. Whatever she decides, they expect Kitty to join them in their plot... willingly or otherwise.

I am a voracious reader (average about 4-5 Audible books a week, in addition to those I "eyeball".) I have been hooked on recorded books since the time of cassettes/CDs and was thrilled when I became an Audible member in 2007. I find reader reviews good guides to spending my credits, so have finally decided to write a few (although, I would rather be reading!)
I am sure I will be in the minority again on this one, but, having ready every single Kitty book and short story (in addition to Vaughn's other tomes, such as "Discord's Apple"), I am becoming increasingly disappointed with each new entry in this series. The last volume seemed to be light in action, but it did have the saving grace of the supporting characters (namely Cormac and Rick.) I kept waiting for something (anything) to happen in this one. Kept checking the time stamp, thinking "when would this end?" I am not a quitter though, so kept listening. A lot (A LOT) of internal monologues (have you ever wondered how supple and kissable a human's lips are? -- well, Kitty has) but not much happens here and the book doesn't really move the grand story arc along.
Gavin's performance, as usual, is engaging, but even she couldn't breathe life into this entry into the Kitty Norville series.
Say something about yourself!
This is very slow and boring book. Three chapter (in a row) where Kitty to capture and alone in her prison talking to herself.
A sub-plot maybe Ben searching for Kitty.
Limited story line in this one. The ending sets up a great idea for the next books and many potential plot lines. The majority of this book could have been accomplished with many fewer chapters and been a good element in a multiple plot-line book.
Only if they were already hooked on the series, and even then only just before the next book in the series if they had other books to read. This book lacked too much of the core cast and the action other books in this series have.
Figured out a way to bring others from the regular cast in to the main story line and liven it up.There was way to much of Kitty by herself, talking to herself or in her head while dealing with a bunch of "crazy people". No real action until the very end of the book and then it was a fight that was impossible to win.
Kitty taking the goggles from the demon.
No, not really I want my credit back.
This book seems to have been a way to get some items and some ideas and information in to Kitty's world. Hopefully the next books will be able to use this to bring back the normal pace and feel of the Kitty Norville series.
I Love a great supernatural tale, a Love story, PNR, a Cool Mystery and Most Sci-Fi....if there are vampires, weres or witches in it, that's a plus! Basically I am a 40+ y/o young at heart woman rediscovering the wonderful world of books and am now addicted! Lol I LOVE AUDIBLE!!!!!
Meh....maybe...but its a slow starter.
Kitty is unique...but her series reminds me of the Cat and Bones series...but werewolves instead of vamps!
MG is AWESOME!! she is one of my most fave narrators..
this book would not be a good movie...but this series would be a great tv show!
Least fave of the 12...but I still love Kitty and cant wait till the next one...if you are a Kitty fan...you will appreciate it...Kitty will always Rock in my book!! :)
Just a guy that likes a good story.
I would put it in the 60s of the thousand or so I have listened to.
Cormac is and always will be my favorite.
As not to spoil, I will just say the part when the woman is standing over Kitty's shoulder.
I love the Kitty series. This was a good story that moved the overall arc along. In the end my only real complaint is that I wish it would have been longer. It was just way too short and I think it 'felt' more so because it was all in the same location. Pretty much that is what made it miss the five start rating. Of course Ms. Gavin is magnificent as always.
Things take a turn for Kitty when she’s kidnapped (again!) by people who think they have a way of getting rid of their shared nemesis, Roman – and this time for good.
Much like Books 05 and 06, Kitty in the Underworld is not one of my favorite in the series. It feels like a "bottle episode;" except that the majority of the time, Kitty is with previously unknown characters.
Most of the story takes place inside an abandoned silver mine -- so the setting is pretty confined and uninteresting. The characters who have kidnapped Kitty don't talk much, except in the most obscure terms. And, once again, the plot revolves around Roman without him even being around. Because Kitty is alone a lot, there is a ton of exposition. I wanted to smack Kitty upside the head when she found her way out of the mine, but then went back to her kidnappers. I get that defeating Roman is important, but can we say Stockholm Syndrome?
That being said, some really good things happen in this episode, like Kitty's connection with the first Regina Luporum. A lot of this book is set-up for the last two books in the series, so you don't want to skip it. It's the same good writing, the same characters, the same world, and the same great audio narrator; it's just isn't one of Kitty's more exciting adventures.
After reading some of the reviews on this book I was tempted not to buy it. I'm glad I did. Yes, parts of it does seem slow and it's not really as action packed as some of her previous books. It is still important to the series and does move the series forward.
A real story! Anything! How boring..... And it doesn't end...... I don't know if I will even continue the story, if this is what has become and I have always the books! My god! Talk about 10s going to a zero!
She did great even having a crappy story!
