Publisher's summary

On the planet Tython, the ancient Je’daii order was founded. And at the feet of its wise Masters, Lanoree Brock learned the mysteries and methods of the Force - and found her calling as one of its most powerful disciples. But as strongly as the Force flowed within Lanoree and her parents, it remained absent in her brother, who grew to despise and shun the Je’daii, and whose training in its ancient ways ended in tragedy.

Now, from her solitary life as a Ranger keeping order across the galaxy, Lanoree has been summoned by the Je’daii Council on a matter of utmost urgency. The leader of a fanatical cult, obsessed with traveling beyond the reaches of known space, is bent on opening a cosmic gateway using dreaded dark matter as the key - risking a cataclysmic reaction that will consume the entire star system. But more shocking to Lanoree than even the prospect of total galactic annihilation, is the decision of her Je’daii Masters to task her with the mission of preventing it. Until a staggering revelation makes clear why she was chosen: The brilliant, dangerous madman she must track down and stop at any cost is the brother whose death she has long grieved - and whose life she must now fear.

Fun read for Star Wars.

Was very impressed with the writing style. The production of the audio book made it gripping.

good story overall! Thought the Narrator did an amazing job with different characters. I wish there was more of Lanoree and her journey.

Stupid main character

Is there anything you would change about this book?

Give us a main character who isn't mentally retarded

What do you think your next listen will be?

Something other than Star Wars. This made me a little sad about the universe. They could have written an awesome story about the origins, but chose this garbage :(

Long, Dull & Somewhat Pointless

Having read most of the Old Republic novels, I was hesitant about this one. While the premise was interesting, many reviewers did not like the book. I have to say I agree with them. I've read other books by Tim Lebbon, he tends to lean more towards horror. His book, "Alien, Out of the Shadows," was better than this. There are flashbacks in nearly every chapter and it wears thin after two. The constant introspection from the lead Lanoree also wears thin. While there are explanations of how the early Jed'aii trained, and it is often different from what later Jedi do, there isn't any payoff for it. The end leaves more questions than answers. More should have been provided. It was noted by another reviewer that the short story that follows is actually a prequel of sorts that should be read first and I agree. That short story is chapter 20, the last chapter. Worst Star Wars book for me so far. Narrative was ok.

I enjoyed this glimpse into better force balance.

I always wondered what the Jedi order could have been with a more thorough understanding of the force. I liked the writing and the narration.

I hope to hear more of the main character's story as well as find out how exactly the Je-daii became the Jedi Order.

Amazing

This story is told amazingly well. They even talk a bit about the Jedaii use of Alchemy.

Better then I had hoped for

This was actually a really good book. I liked that the Jedi came from these roots. Balancing between light and dark and a little more quick to draw their swords and ask questions later. It makes the rest of the timeline more rich. The story probably could have been told a little more concisely - it’s a little long, but I would highly recommend it for any hardcore Star Wars fan. Amazing performance.
