Publisher's summary

Dani "Mega" O’Malley plays by her own set of rules - and in a world overrun by Dark Fae, her biggest rule is: Do what it takes to survive. Possessing rare talents and the all-powerful Sword of Light, Dani is more than equipped for the task. In fact, she’s one of the few humans who can defend themselves against the Unseelie. But now, amid the pandemonium, her greatest gifts have turned into serious liabilities.

Dani’s ex–best friend, MacKayla Lane, wants her dead, the terrifying Unseelie princes have put a price on her head, and Inspector Jayne, the head of the police force, is after her sword and will stop at nothing to get it. What’s more, people are being mysteriously frozen to death all over the city, encased on the spot in sub-zero, icy tableaux.

When Dublin’s most seductive nightclub gets blanketed in hoarfrost, Dani finds herself at the mercy of Ryodan, the club’s ruthless, immortal owner. He needs her quick wit and exceptional skill to figure out what’s freezing Fae and humans dead in their tracks - and Ryodan will do anything to ensure her compliance.

Dodging bullets, fangs, and fists, Dani must strike treacherous bargains and make desperate alliances to save her beloved Dublin - before everything and everyone in it gets iced.

Narration was a bit of a problem.

The actors did a really good job on the two central characters. I enjoyed the book as a whole, but I found the change of characters difficult to follow since the voices of the actors did not change much from one character to another character that the two actors portrayed. As portrayed, it required more concentration to follow the switch from Dani to the Abbess to Jo and similarly among the male characters.

Absolute fave!

There is nothing I do t like about any of the books by KMM. To top it off the voices could not fit better or be more perfect.

Interesting Story with an Annoying Main Character

Would you try another book from Karen Marie Moning and/or Phil Gigante and Natalie Ross ?

Yes

What other book might you compare Iced to and why?

I would compare this book to the Artemis Fowl books. This world has an active faerie world with an exceptionally gifted prepubescent main character.

Have you listened to any of Phil Gigante and Natalie Ross ’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No, n/a.

Was Iced worth the listening time?

Yes.

Any additional comments?

I was initially annoyed by the main character. She is an immature cocky, exceptionally gifted 14 year old street urchin from Dublin, Ireland. I did not realize this was a spin off book/character from a well established series. It is evident that much has happened with this story/world to get to the starting point of this book. While I found the main character to be pretty annoying throughout the book, I do like the world and I think the story was well written, so I might try the first book of the series, and see how I like that.

Unexpected, and not in a good way.

Any additional comments?

iced was listed as the first book in aeries, it is actually book #6. The team narration between Phil Gigante, and Natalie Ross was first rate, and Natalie did a spectacular job with Dani the main character. The author id a very nice job crafting the story, and keeping the characters distinct.
However, Dani, the main character while well voiced, and well written, is only 14 ,and a emotionally young 14 at that. She's self absorbed as only a young teen can be, and true to the age highly irritating. This is not a Young Adult story.

Set in a post apocalyptic Dublin where the walls between earth and fairy have fallen, Dani has magical gifts and a sword that can kill the Fae who are not nice.
The main action involves identifying and killing a Fae who is flash freezing parts of the city. There are three men who are involved in fighting the monster. Dancer, a 17 year old human boy genius, and two powerful magical adult men, a college student that is in the process of turning into a Fae prince, and a immortal guy of undetermined powers and origin. All three guys are sexually interested in the 14 year old girl. Yuck

The most normal relationship is with the 17 year old, they have the best buddy thing. The college student turning into a fae has oddly schizophrenic interactions with her--the fae part wants her in his bed now, and the human part know she's only 14. And the last guy is clearly "grooming" her to be his future mate which adds a creepy pedophile vibe to most of the book. Double Yuck.

Iced was not the book to start the series, and will be added to my never listen to again list.

Dani's A Diamond among sheep

If you could sum up Iced in three words, what would they be?

Intriguing, witty, smart.

What did you like best about this story?

that the authors most fascinating two characters whom I assumed were just going to be strong side characters (Dani & Ryodan) have their own stories to be told in elaborate detail.

Have you listened to any of Phil Gigante and Natalie Ross ’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

this was a double edged sword. i really loved Ryodan's voice deep dark and mysterious like the character himself. however I wasn't impressed with Natalie Ross's voice for Dani it grated slightly on my nerves, it distracted me for awhile in the beginning but eventually adjusted because the story was so engaging.I suspected the reason I had a hard time with Natalie Ross's voice was the reader is an adult trying to act out young a teenage, and it just didn't fit the parameters of the character them self and how I envisioned them.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Interesting perspective from Danny

I really missed Mac and Barron's in this book, but the book leaves you at a cliffhanger dying to pick up the next book in the series. I can't wait to see what happens between Danny and Mac. Hopefully the next book will include both Mac and Danny.

The narrator was absolutely awesome. Perfect for this book. The male characters narrator was fantastic as well.

Karen Marie Moning is by far one of my favorite authors.

Great book

Love the fact that this author genuinely knows how to write a story, with depth and value. Not something we run into very often these days. Have read all her books and enjoyed them all.

Glad I gave it a chance!

Like others have mentioned, I wasn't enthused about a story that revolves around a young girl. And yes, there are some uncomfortable moments where grown men (Christian and Riordan) are sexually excited in her presence. There are also a couple uncomfortable moments with Riordan's abusive/controlling treatment of Dani. Despite these moments, I found the story to be very entertaining - and Moning is very talented in her treatment of these situations. Throughout the story, there was great character development, especially for Riordan, Lore and Dancer. I definitely want to learn more about Dancer. Dani is exactly as you remember her, though you learn much more about her past. There is a complete story that is nicely wrapped up at the end, although there is a minor cliff-hanger relating to her relationship with Mack, who has only a very minor presence in this book.
