Publisher's summary

Dani "Mega" O’Malley plays by her own set of rules - and in a world overrun by Dark Fae, her biggest rule is: Do what it takes to survive. Possessing rare talents and the all-powerful Sword of Light, Dani is more than equipped for the task. In fact, she’s one of the few humans who can defend themselves against the Unseelie. But now, amid the pandemonium, her greatest gifts have turned into serious liabilities.

Dani’s ex–best friend, MacKayla Lane, wants her dead, the terrifying Unseelie princes have put a price on her head, and Inspector Jayne, the head of the police force, is after her sword and will stop at nothing to get it. What’s more, people are being mysteriously frozen to death all over the city, encased on the spot in sub-zero, icy tableaux.

When Dublin’s most seductive nightclub gets blanketed in hoarfrost, Dani finds herself at the mercy of Ryodan, the club’s ruthless, immortal owner. He needs her quick wit and exceptional skill to figure out what’s freezing Fae and humans dead in their tracks - and Ryodan will do anything to ensure her compliance.

Dodging bullets, fangs, and fists, Dani must strike treacherous bargains and make desperate alliances to save her beloved Dublin - before everything and everyone in it gets iced.

the random sexual refrences are strange

Despite the random sexual refrences are strange, the story is great. The series is probably worth a read.

Boring but Necessary

I've read 'Iced' twice now, and I still feel the same way about it now as I did the first time. It's kind of hard to get through. Not a lot of excitement or anticipation, but I understand why this book needed to be written. I do believe it's important to the rest of the series in it's entirety. Great voice acting though

A good story, if a bit too juvenile for me

Good bits first - the Narration is excellent, you could generally pick out who was speaking based on the different voices and accents. The only issue I had was that quite often, I couldn't tell whether Dani was thinking something or actually speaking out loud, but that was more due to what I disliked about the main character than any narration problem.

Dani is, according to the book, 14 years old, and truly acts that way, or rather the way that ex-teenagers are bound to think a young person might comport themselves. I kept wanting to tell the brat that no, not EVERYTHING on earth revolves around you, other people do have a life too. I cannot imagine any teenager being quite so self-centered. Apart from that, there was too much wanting to kill everything "bad" and actually enjoying the process. And although there wasn't a whole lot of sex going on, but enough thinking about it that I found it annoying. These points detract from the story line sufficiently that, although I do like the story itself and would be interested in how things develop, I'm not going to get the sequel.

A Mega Cool Start

For those of you who haven't read Karen Marie Moning before, her first person narrative is one of the best I've read stylistically. The narration is true to the character narrating, flows smoothly, and never comes off as artificial. Pair that with a unique world of magic and mayhem that's colorful, mysterious, and exciting, and her stories promise to be engaging, endearing, and energetic.

Phil Gigante and Natalie Ross read the story, splitting characters and narratives. They do a fantastic job bringing characters to life with unique voices for the various characters and their voices complement each other well.

Iced is the story of 14 year old Dani O'Malley: sidhe-seer, superhero, and on-site reporter. Dani works hard to protect the people of Dublin from the Fae now that the Wall separating our world from theirs has fallen. It's a hard knock life growing up on the dark streets when she moves faster than even her eyes can track. And that was before the Dark Fae—and darker things—started paying attention to her. So when summer begins to frost up, Dani's going to have to team up with people she doesn't like. Even worse, they're grown ups!

Sad it ended :'(

What about Phil Gigante and Natalie Ross ’s performance did you like?

The performance of the narrators was perfect. The voices change with each character so you did not get lost at all. You knew who was speaking with out an introduction. Well done! Phil Gigante is sooo easy to listen to. Sigh!

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes

Any additional comments?

I was so sad the book ended, I am impatiently waiting for the next one.
