The first novel in Isaac Asimov’s classic science-fiction masterpiece, the Foundation series

The epic saga that inspired the Apple TV+ series Foundation, now streaming. Nominated as one of America’s best-loved novels by PBS’s The Great American Read.

For 12,000 years the Galactic Empire has ruled supreme. Now it is dying. But only Hari Seldon, creator of the revolutionary science of psychohistory, can see into the future - to a dark age of ignorance, barbarism, and warfare that will last thirty thousand years. To preserve knowledge and save humankind, Seldon gathers the best minds in the Empire - both scientists and scholars - and brings them to a bleak planet at the edge of the galaxy to serve as a beacon of hope for future generations. He calls his sanctuary the Foundation.

The Foundation novels of Isaac Asimov are among the most influential in the history of science fiction, celebrated for their unique blend of breathtaking action, daring ideas, and extensive worldbuilding. In Foundation, Asimov has written a timely and timeless novel of the best - and worst - that lies in humanity, and the power of even a few courageous souls to shine a light in a universe of darkness.

Good narration, great story

The narrator is good to listen to, though the participants of dialogues sometimes fuse together.

Scott Brick is a Narrative God.

Great narration of a great story! My wife and I enjoy audio books together before bed time to relax. She's not a big fan of SciFi, but the story is about people being people. And as such, it is entirely relevant to what we see today in the US. Scott Brick did a masterful job of narration. By voice alone it was easy to tell the characters apart, even picture them in our minds with the character's state of mind. Give this a listen!

Fantastic!

Intellectually stimulating, philosophically rich, and thoroughly entertaining. Scott Brick is the ideal Asimov narrator. Well worth the time and credit.

Relevant thinking for today

This is a classic story of human nature played out against a long time period. The ruthless, altruistic and benign actions of humans is shown clearly with the separation from current time to allow a bit of perspective. The Foundation moves toward their long term goals with the injection of powerful individuals that keep the empire moving forward to reformation. A touch dated but absolutely addressing todays political activities.

Excellent all around!

Scott Brick could make the phone book interesting. Fortunately, this book is nowhere near as dull and has a ton more dialogue than any given phone book. can't wait to listen to the other books in the series also narrated by Scott Brick.

Text has been changed, fantastic story nonetheless

I like reading along with audiobooks and the fact that this narration changes a little bit each chapter was enough to drive me nuts. The book is fantastic and everyone should read it but they should seriously reconsider straying from the text you can purchase to this day.
