I love the world of Pern but not this narrator

I began my love affair with all things pernese with the harper hall series. I've read and reread these books ad nauseum. What I don't understand is why one would choose an old lady's voice to narrate a 14/15 yearold girl. it's distracting and while I'm sure she'd do a great "murder she wrote" or something along those lines... but Sally Darling is no Menolly and it detracts from my beloved stories.

don't quite understand the bad reviews

This book series has been one of my favorites since they were first published, and my daughter's name is Menolly. She also is a musician and gifted singer, of course look at her name sake.

The poor reviews were centered around the narration, I thought it was lovely. So what that a faint southern accent slipped in. Not a British accent so it is not acceptable? Story is third person, so if the "old aunt" told it, why not? Menolly is not the narrator. Chapter numbers could have used a longer pause between the last words of the previous chapter, but that was the only thing that bothered me.

An old friend

This was my first love in books. It is always a good story. We all wonder from time to time where we fit in. What life can offer. I read it as a teen and have visited Meloney again from time to time. Thank you Anne McCarffery for creating her. Her and your Crystal singer I dearly love.

Anne McCaffrey never disappoints.

Just listen to a marvelous recording of one of my favorite authors, I will probably listen to it again tomorrow. The planet Pern is always a pure pleasure.

Dragonsong narrated by Sally Darling

I have owned the hard back books since 1984. Love the Harper Hall Trilogy. I like how Sally used.many inflections of her voice for each of the characters, and it seemed especially so for Menolly. I enjoyed this audible version of Dragonsong.

Great story, so so reading.

Enjoyed this story though it is a YA book I think. Unfortunately the narrator sounds like an elderly grandmother overdoing a reading for children. Also Audible chapters don't match the book chapters.
