Don't miss the other books in the Harper Hall Trilogy.

"Young people will be entranced again by Pern's ways and in Piemur find an impulsive, thoroughly sympathetic hero." (School Library Journal)
"As deftly structured and as smoothly written as its predecessors." (Bulletin of the Center for Children's Books)
"All dragonrider fans will want to read it." (Voice of Youth Advocates)
This is another favorite author of mine from my adolescence. I am rereading them with my ears and finding them more enjoyable than ever. The wonderful tales thread together to create a world of dragons. Yet the story is still a story of human relations, charactors, emotions, life and society. In each book we can find our selves and those we know.
I would say it's average. I've listened to some great ones!
Anne McCaffrey's world-building is brilliant. She is truly a master. Also, even though this is the third book in the series, it really stands on its own as a story and I could easily see someone reading and enjoying it who knew very little about Pern at all.
I really feel as though Sally Darling's voice isn't appropriate for these books. It feels like your grandmother is sitting down to read you a story, which might be great in some cases, but these books are just too cool for that to be effective.
This was the perfect ending to a delightful trilogy. It was great to hear another character's story.
I 1st read the Harper Hall trilogy as a teen and loved the story. It must have had a lot of influence on me as I ended up married to a musician. I have just introduced my 7 yr old to the series. He enjoyed it very much and I think will become a fan too.
Anne McCaffrey yes, Sally Darling NO
Piemur. He's adventurous and entertaining.
OMG. Anybody who doesn't have such a THICK southern accent. Would be nice if words like green were not two syllables. I mean gree-un dragons, good grief.
I think this is one of McCaffrey's best books. I love the harper hall books and the fire lizards.
I was introduced to Anne McCaffrey in 1981. I have been a fan of hers ever since. So, if a book has her, (or her son, Todd's) name, buy it. The world of Pern seems so real, it is easy to imagine it really exists somewhere in the outer regions of our galaxy.
The Harper Hall audiobook series is my new favorite. Dragondrums is the last of the trilogy, and does not disappoint.
I can't help but fall in love with Piemur, the main character. But Menolly will always hold top spot in my heart.
The very last.
It makes me laugh throughout, and cry in spots.
I love the Pern books, but the Harper Hall Trilogy are the ones I will keep on my player at all times, and the ones I will share with my 9-yr-old grandaughter. Love them!
Grandma bibliophile! Audible books make reading with an active life possible.
This is our introduction to Piemer. A young boy who's very beautiful singing voice changes. It creates numerous problems for him as a future Harper. His proclivity for troublemaking causes problems in his new Harper home in the Drum Tower. The jealousy of others to his quick mind cause him numerous problems, due to his reputation for being a little too conniving. That may have come back to bite him initially, but saves him in the long run.
As before, Sally Darling was OK as narrator. Not at all bad, but the pronunciation of the names still grated. N'ton to me is Nah-ton, she says in un-ton during these books and it just doesn't sound natural to me, both narrators pronounce Piemer as pi-mer (like primer), and to me he's always been pee-mer, like pea the vegetable, so that was an adjustment. That's just me and my opinion though (and my possible mispronunciation for over 3 decades), and it doesn't get in the way of another Anne McCaffrey classic being as wonderful as it is for the ultimate in escapism.
among the McCaffrey's Pern books! this is one that joins the strams of story together
what he had to do to save his fire liserd.
pimur, he has so many fasets in his personality
first time Yes. the many times sence in a more thought maner.
I read the harper series nearly twenty years ago and absolutely loved it, so I knew the story before I listened to it on Audible. I was somewhat hesitant though, as I have found several of my favourite books absolutely RUINED by poor narrators with grating voices, but Ms Darling does an excellent job portraying a vast array of personalities. She has a very pleasant voice and it was a pleasure listening to the story.
"Hooked on Pern all over again"
The narration by Sally Darling captures the atmosphere and characters. One of McCaffrey's most delightful!
"My guilty schmaltz"
My favourite McCaffrey book by far - always connected with this one since I first read it in the eighties - sympathetically read by Sally Darling.
Always grabs my gut in the last few sentences.
Sally Darling is the best reader I've heard of Anne and Todd McCaffrey's work.
Piemur's my favourite McCaffrey creation. The book and this reading really do him justice.
I loved these books years ago and this reading brought back all of the magic. Lovely.
Having been a fan of Anne McCaffrey for many years this audio book did not dissapoint.
I hope to find and listen to many more.
