Abridged Version and NOT noted

I'm so sad that all 3 of the books in this series are abridged. I love these books and have re-read them over and over, I kept expecting conversations that didn't happen. So sad and a waste of money.

Blah

It was slow, slow, drudgingly so. The only reason I kept listening was the reader. She was lovely. It seemed that this girl had sex at the drop of a hat. I have read many Anne McCaffrey books and there was little to no sex. If I wanted that I’d read a romance. Not a very interesting book. I was hopeful that there was yet another series of her’s that I would like but alas no.

An old fave

Loved it the first time around. Big fan of Anne. Forgot how short it was though. Still a great story. On to book 2.

Abridged

Be aware that though there is no notation this is an abridged recording. That is disappointing. I’ve actually read all 3 of this trilogy, so I know sections/details are left out. The story is still good, but if you have the time you should read the books.

I have always loved Anne McCaffrey

this is my first audible of an Anne McCaffrey book. Still love to story, the Narrator wasn't my favorite, but still ok. I had to slow it down since I felt she read a little too fast.

Still a good book after all these years

I really liked the story. I read the book about 20 years ago and thought it was a little longer. The sound of the recording was a little garbled.

Abridging removing pleasure

Is there anything you would change about this book?

have the whole book read so all the colour of the writes story comes through, by abridging it you take away from the whole.

What other book might you compare Crystal Singer to and why?

Compared to any other Ann McCaffery book it is very good in its full form but being abridged cause it to fall well short of her intent.

What does Adrienne Barbeau bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

The colour of a readers voice and inflection adds to the experience of the book even in the abridged version but would make it even better if she read the whole book so as to bring out all the flavors of the writers intent.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

if it stayed true to the book, Yes.

Anne McCaffrey is my favorite writer.

I found a crystal singer books so many years ago. And I could not put it down. When I found out there were two other books I went crazy looking for them. They are still a part of my library. But now I drive a lot and I can't tell you how happy I was to find these books in Audible.

Book is excellent, audio book needs work

I love this series, and I bought the audio series to share it with my boyfriend. The first book's audio quality leaves much to be desired. I also wish there was an unabridged version available. While this version gives a good feel for the overall story, I very much miss the rest (the extra characterization of minor characters, how the guild runs, etc).

Abridged, sadly

This series is one of my favorite ones. I've been reading it over and over again for over 20 years... so was thrilled to see it on audible, and then very sad to discover it's abridged. All the major story points are there, but all the lovely details have been removed. The narrator talks FASTER than pretty much every other narrator on audible, but once I got used to it I realized it was at the same speed I read, and as a result I found it easier to drop into that film in your head sensation I get from reading that is usually missing on audible.
