Publisher's summary

Cynical, quick-on-the-trigger Takeshi Kovacs, the ex-U.N. envoy turned private eye, has changed careers, and bodies, once more, trading sleuthing for soldiering as a warrior-for-hire and helping a far-flung planet's government put down a bloody revolution.

But when it comes to taking sides, the only one Kovacs is ever really on is his own. So when a rogue pilot and a sleazy corporate fat cat offer him a lucrative role in a treacherous treasure hunt, he's only too happy to go AWOL with a band of resurrected soldiers of fortune. All that stands between them and the ancient alien spacecraft they mean to salvage are a massacred city bathed in deadly radiation, unleashed nanotechnolgy with a million ways to kill, and whatever surprises the highly advanced Martian race may have in store. But armed with his genetically engineered instincts, and his trusty twin Kalashnikovs, Takeshi is ready to take on anything...and let the devil take whoever's left behind.

Broken Angels is the second Takeshi Kovacs novel. Don't miss the first, Altered Carbon, or the third, Woken Furies.

A little more explicit than I like.

Great story line, great twists love the character development. Awesome world building! Love how Kovach doesn't always win every confrontation. A+ narrator

A smart and thoughtful trek through space and war.

With winged Martians millennia gone and many underlying layers of intrigue and suspense, this is not a story to easily set aside. Another smart story with incredibly well thought out threads and hidden agendas galore. This is a masterful story by an epic storyteller who will keep you in the edge of your seat and not knowing the whole truth until the very last lines of the tale are told. Performed by a master narrator as well, you will not be disappointed.

A step down

Didn't live up to book one imo. The story line felt artificial, no real motivation fire the characters to do anything they did. And apparently it is possible to attribute any super power to Takeshi by simply appending "envoy" to any word.

solid science fiction that earns its stars!

Takeshi Kovacs lays bleeding and waiting for repair in a Wedge paramilitary hospital. The war has been brutal, but neither the Cartel who hired them, nor the Kempist revolution is willing to give ground without a fight. Fate, however has other plans for Kovacs than just laying around. a man has come looking for him with claims about a discovered alien relic the likes of which has never been seen, and of value un- calculated. He just needs to break an archolog out of a pow camp, get a crew of spec ops personal and get tje backing of a major Cartel player. easy as pie... did i mention the alien ghosts?

Loved it

I really love the duality of Takeshi's character. Just as in Altered Carbon, the first book, he will do whatever he can to help the downtrodden and those he cares about just as easily as he kills those who cross him and his. He is not one to stand idly by.

I love dystopian fiction, but the Takeshi Kovacs novels seem to take it to the next level. The futuristic landscape of the different worlds in which Takeshi finds himself give a sense of high technology, decadence, and dytopian. I am enjoying the book series thoroughly so far and am looking forward to listening to the next one immediately.

For those who love audio books as much as I do, the narration is 5 stars. We all know a narrator can ruin a perfectly good book. Thankfully, this is not the case here.

meh

1st book was space noir. this one isn't..... very good.

kinda all over the place. the beginning was alright minus the unessacary sex scenes. the middle wasn't terrible. the last section was very jumbled & confusing.

I'll still read the 3rd one bc I truly enjoy the main character. I just feel the story line was set up for mediocrity. 6/10 overall

Good, but Altered Carbon was better

I remember Altered Carbon being a frantic ride. This one took me 1/3 of the book to really get interested. Don't get me wrong, it was good and worth a listen, but completely different from book 1 in every way imaginable. This could easily be read stand-alone without missing much. I'm glad I didn't spend a whole credit on it, but it was definitely worth the sale price. If you read this, drop Altered Carbon from your mind and read this with no preconceived concepts or you'll likely be disappointed. Also, this IS NOT for children any more than Altered Carbon. It's graphic, sexual, and has disturbing content.

Amazing.

Didn't think it could get better than Altered Carbon... But it did. The best sequel to any book, ever.

Whole Series

The Atlered Carbon Series has been great. Little graphic sometimes but no worse than what is in TV. If Scfi is your thing then you will get totally wrapped up in this. Don't let any of these slip by you
