Publisher's summary

Mack might be, to all intents and purposes, a normal looking human, but she lives with a pack of shapeshifters in Cornwall in rural England after being dumped there by her mother when she was just a young child. She desperately wants to be accepted by her surrogate family, not least because a lot of them hate her for merely being human, but for some reason her blood just won't allow the transformation to occur. With a terrible temper to match her fiery red hair, Mack is extraordinarily useful in a fight, and when her pack alpha is brutally and abruptly murdered, she swears vengeance. Unfortunately, his murder also draws in the Brethren - the leaders of the shapeshifter world - who will slaughter everyone in Mack's small rural pack if they discover her true identity. Unfortunately Corrigan, the green-eyed muscle-bound Lord Alpha of the Brethren, doesn't let much slip by him.

Very good story

I had a very heard time with the narrator. However, the story was excellent. The tension between Mack, Antonio and Corrigan, all of a different nature from the other is what makes the book. I can't wait to see what's next for Mack!

Shifters

A human illegally grows up in a shifter pack. But when the Alpha is murder all hell breaks loose. Not only are things not as they seem, but the powerful authorities come to investigate and if they find out she is human, the entire pack could be executed.

This was definitely a great first book and I can't wait to start book two.

Great series

I listened to this series a few years ago and I'm listening again. This time, I am reading the associated Corrigan book (available on Kindle) to see his point of view of the same story. Very cool! Engaging story and characters!

Only one complaint

I could do without the story ending in such an unfinished way. I realize it's a series, but the ending still seemed abrupt. Still, loved it!

Not bad.

This book seems to set the stage for the rest of the story. Not a lot of action, just enough to keep it interesting, I definitely like the attitude of the main character and think there is a lot of potential to this story, I hope to see some of that in the next book. :) Narration was Awesomely done.

The Ending Absolutely Sucked

I can't believe the ending. Spoiler. Instead of the heroine winning, in the end she lost everything. What a disappointment.

A series I can be excited about.

When I first started to listen to this book, I thought it was likable but nothing special. But about at the second half, the book hits it's grove and I really liked it. I will be getting the next one in the series, especially since it is a Whispersync selection. That doesn't mean it isn't without its problems. Mac takes way too long to figure things out and she is a bit immature but I still like her a lot. The author does repeat over and over that Mac is human and I feel that it was a bit redundant. There is no sex in this book, but I can't guarantee there won't be some later because I suspect the romance that was hinted at in this book will heat up in future books, hopefully. Narrator does a good job, it's nice not to have a really hard accent but a nice lilt.

Nothing special

I am not an expert of urban fantasy but I think that the story is not very original. It had some potential: a has strong female character Mac, a mystery story, a pack of werewolves. But Mac's temper gets a bit annoying at the end. The motivation behind her actions are not very convincing, and some of her excuses are just so lame.
I liked the narrator, as she impersonated the characters well.
