Publisher's summary

Meet Grant Matson: lawyer, father, suburbanite husband who awakens to the fragility of modern society and embarks on a personal journey that introduces him to a world of self-reliance and liberation. 299 Days: The Preparation, the first audiobook in the 299 Days series, depicts the inner struggles Grant must face as he exists in a social system he recognizes as unsustainable and on the verge of collapse, but one in which he has built his life around. What begins as a return to his roots, self-sufficiency and independence, becomes a full blown move to prepare for what may come.

Engaging, insightful, and a bit suspenseful, follow Grant's transition from a self-perceived "sheeple" to a full-blown "prepper". Will his fears come true? Is he an extremist? What if nothing happens? What if something does?

Awesome Story

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I highly recommend this story. This is the one that starts it off and sets up a great series. It's not your typical "Lone wolf ex-miliatary super hero". It's about real people and how they react. I found it to be completely believable and that made it fun and scary.

What does Kevin Pierce bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Kevin does a great job telling the story. I can see sitting around a fire and Mr. Pierce telling us all the story. H

A Cautionary Tale Torn from the Headlines

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

A very engaging narrative which builds a deep understanding of the central characters.

What did you like best about this story?

The story delves deeply into the main protagonists difficult upbringing which not only adds depth to his character but also makes him seem truly human. We see the root causes character's underlying motivations which are formed by his childhood experiences. Few books do this and even fewer do it well.

Which character – as performed by Kevin Pierce – was your favorite?

Grant Matson of course, he's clearly the hero

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

When he started to get past his shallow fixation on the trappings of success and started trying to be a real man, a real father, a real hustband

Any additional comments?

Excellent foundation for the book series.

Instant Prepper Classic

This is the creme de la creme of the Prepper Genre. Tate has imaginative and real characters and shows well the life of an average prepper. I can't wait to read the next book.

So far, excellent - cannot put it down!

I am into this genre - and go through some poorly written books in an effort to find a series just like this. This, the first book in the series starts out flat, and I am putting it kindly, I almost stopped reading the book (I had bought it in real page turning book form first as it was not available on audio) if it was not for a really bad movie my girlfriend was watching and that book on the table, collecting dust, I would have tossed it after the first few chapters of character development, but I kept on and before long was hooked. I ordered the audio version because the print version had a bunch of blank pages in the crucial last 1/3 of the book - and have been obsessed with it since. The author works in state government and goes to great length to conceal his real name - he has inside information and brings that to the page as he reveals the story, it is the realism of events, the total development of certain characters, both hero and villain, their position in the story and who acquires power and by what means that lays the groundwork for some great action and suspense. This may be one of the best books in this genre out there, certainly in audio format.
Highly recommended, you will be looking for every excuse to listen to this until it is done, and you will rip into the next book in the series the second you finish this one, and will be happy it is available.

aaaaand finally got to "nowhere'

some decent stuff here, however the narrator sounds like the guy at end of Nepolian Dynamite that married Kip and Lufanda. got through this 1st of 19 books and I'll stop here. some decent prep stuff to get your mind thinking. I would recommend this 1st book, your mileage may vary.....

Another Great Survivalist Novel!

I am often disappointed with the readability of Survivalist Novels, but this one has a very readable storyline. I thoroughly enjoyed this read!

Great book with an excellent performance!

What did you love best about 299 Days?

This book was really interesting and was realistic enough to make it interesting to me.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Grant: because he is a libertarian that sees the corruption on both sides of government and takes action to keep his family safe.

Any additional comments?

Some reviewers have said that this book spends too much time bashing liberals. I disagree; liberals and conservatives alike are both viewed as corrupt in this book. Essentially, the only aspect of government in this book is that it isn't working. Ultimately, its a story about prepping and survivalism.

Great story, but too much foul language

Would you try another book from Glen Tate and/or Kevin Pierce?

Probably, the story was good, the language was not, but it wasn't too overwhelming in most places.

Everyone should read this series

If you could sum up 299 Days in three words, what would they be?

Absolute must read!

Who was your favorite character and why?

Grant and Chip. Grants story is single handedly changing my views for the better.

Have you listened to any of Kevin Pierce’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I haven't, but will now. What a asset.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Yes, made me wake up and continue on my preps.
