Publisher's summary

When Monica Savage - the wife of one of the country's richest men, Tom Savage - becomes the apparent victim of abduction and her billionaire husband is later found brutally murdered and dismembered, it's Monica's ex-husband, Johnny Zen, who steps in to unravel the truth.

Johnny's a washed-up radio DJ and part-time novelist with a nose for trouble. He finds plenty of it when he winds up on the list of suspects in the murder of Tom Savage. The authorities believe Monica conspired to kill her husband, faked her abduction, and is on the run. They also believe Johnny may be her accomplice. Johnny believes Monica is innocent and has indeed been abducted. He sets out to find Monica before the authorities do. Along the way Johnny discovers a tawdry tale of sex, murder, and deceit, and Monica Savage is in the middle of it all.

kidnapping, murder... I can dig it

Received ARC for an honest review. So I'll have to preface with this; I don't normally read mystery, thriller or horror but when I do, I stick with specific authors because I know the quality I'll get. That being said, I was really surprised by the content of this book. It was a really good read, very intriguing. I found myself so lost in this world! It was a real whodunnit. It was filled with suspects and plot twists. The author goes off on long tangents for awhile and there are too many different characters to follow in the story told in the 3rd person. This to me makes it feel messy and hard to follow. If something happens and you miss something, you may come back to a completely different storyline within the story. I had to rewind a few times because I wasn't sure which characters had their time in the story. One other thing that is really just a pet peeve of mine, early in the book there's a mention of something announced over the police radio and then the officers respond however, instead of using the police radio code for the issue, the author said in plain English what specifically was going on. Police officers use code over the radios because there are so many people out there that are civilians that have their own radios tuned in to the police scanner and these days they're are tons of police scanner apps. The codes are used to keep civilians and media from crime scenes. So that's something that really bugged me. I'm one of those people that will actually research things I read in books if I'm unsure or it sounds wrong. I know others do as well. Even if it's just entertainment, it still has to be correctly written or shown. Other than that, I did truly enjoy this book.
