Publisher's summary

Winner of the Harper Lee Prize for Legal Fiction.

A ruthless lawyer cross-examines his life after a guilty client walks free in this sharp legal thriller from the bestselling author of The Neon Lawyer.

Ruthless defense attorney Tatum Graham has been living large in Miami, but when his recently acquitted client claims another victim, Tatum has a crisis of conscience. Disillusioned, he heads to his small Utah hometown for a simpler life...but that’s not what he finds.

Soon after he arrives, Tatum’s childhood crush offers him a job at the county attorney’s office and assigns him a murder case. The victim is a teenage girl not unlike the victim in the last case he tried. Now a prosecutor, Tatum sees a chance for redemption, but politics, corruption, and a killer defense threaten to thwart justice.

To complicate matters, Tatum’s estranged father has terminal cancer, and the time to reconcile is running out. Tatum moved to Utah to find clarity, but his thoughts swirl with old feelings and present dangers. As the case heats up, so does the risk, threatening to adjourn Tatum’s new life before it begins.

This is probably my fastest listen so far. I finished the whole book on a Sunday even when i was biking. Will look into the author's other books~

I recommend this Audible book

I really enjoyed Alexander Cendese's performance of this book. I felt that he captured the personality of the characters in The Hallows. I highly recommend this Audible book to accompany Victor Methos' very interesting book.

love the author and the narrator

Hands down the best book I've listened to in a very long time. My husband who is not a fan of audio books actually listened with me. He too gave it a thumbs up!!

Watch it there, Mac.

Great story! I agree with most other reviewers that the narrator's depiction of Tatum was impressive, but that of the women were weak and sometimes distracting. Despite that, the overall performance was still excellent. What grew a little tiresome for me was the inevitability of smart-alecky Tatum's winning every smackdown, or at least getting away with it. Even the best, surly Philip Marlowe, in comparison, got the punches he deserved.

Loved it! The story line moves quickly and you are absorbed in not only the courtroom drama, but the characters lives as well. I couldn't put it down!!😊

Good story, kinda frustrating characters

Main-character felt blatantly geared towards what men would fantasize as being a macho "alpha male"

Every time I listen to one of his books I am sorry for the first chapter. Then it takes off And I love it. Happens every time.

Liked “The Killer’s Wife” much more!

Did not like the narrator-speaking the female roles. The story was good. The ending was tied up too neatly.
