Bolter Porn

Rynn's World in so many ways is the definitive "Bolter Porn" book of the sprawling Warhammer 40K literary world. The overall pace of the novel is quite breathless but very easy reading throughout with an interesting cast of characters and subplots throughout, a fine example of space marine battles compared to the others that were printed and churned out for the SMB book listings/ collection.

Amazing story, great characters and the narrator knocked it out of the park. Wonderfully done, hope to hear more of his work soon.

One of the best Warhammer stories

Ever since I got into this hobby I have been waiting for this to be adapted. It’s one of the best Warhammer 40K stories I’ve listened to. The action is great, the characters are great. And the narration by Greg Jones is great. I hope he gets more assignments.

Crimson Fists vs Orks!

The story is good. The Space Marines start out as cold, over confident, and lacks empathy towards the humans they are sworn to protect. The Crimson Fists are so different from the Imperial Fists and Rogal Dorn in the Siege of Terra series 10,000 years ago in this story, I often wonder if the author knows about the genetic memory that the Space Marines have as part of the lore. The characters are not Stoic and composed like their Primarch and they lack a sense of compassion in their interactions with the humans unlike the Imperial Fists’ interactions with the Rememberances during the Horus Heresy Series. There are a few in the book that show empathy and express kindness to the humans, which make them cool characters in the story. I am also surprised that the Crimson Fists which are descendants of the Imperial Fists did not in the last 10,000 years obsessed themselves with fortifications. I would have expected their home world to be like Cadia a fortress world fortified for 10,000 years. Rogal Dorn was known for excessive defense, so why are the Crimson Fists mimicking their Primarch? This is a flaw in the story I became aware of.

The story is good it is not like Hells Reach. Hope to see a sequel.

really good second only to Hell's reach Armageddon

if had one criticism it would be it starts off a little slow, but I think that is most 40K books. I thoroughly enjoyed this one if you liked hell's reach Armageddon you're sure to love this one!

A Very Good Space Marine Book

This is my second book in the 40k setting, my first being “The Infinite and the Divine”. Two very different types of stories and I must say I prefer the so called “Bolter Porn” this book and others like it are so commonly referred as. The setting is laid out nicely, the characters, while your typical (super) man with gun. Are well fleshed out and the action keeps me engaged enough that I don’t glaze over and find myself rewinding five times in the same chapter because my mind wandered away. The action sequences do start to loose steam by the end of the second act, there are only so many ways ways you can say, “he killed the ork”, before it gets a little tired. But the story quickly gets a second wind for the third act a sends it home.

Performance I believe to be average and I like the occasional ork voice. But this book has a lot of Spanish names that get butchered by an English accent, a small but frequent annoyance.

Overall I enjoyed this immensely. 40k lends itself well to action sequences in books more than it does clever adventure tales like “The Infinite and the Divine” and I can’t wait to continue reading other great tales like this one.
