Publisher's summary

New York Times best-selling author Julie Garwood has captured the hearts of millions of listeners worldwide with timeless tales of love and soaring adventure. Now, returning to the enchanting world of her classic love story “The Bride,” she brings to glorious life the passion, intrigue, and rivalry of medieval Scotland....

Resigned to an arranged marriage to a highland laird she has never met, Lady Brenna journeys from England to Scotland certain she will suffer a loveless marriage. But en route to her betrothed, a rival band of Werce, painted warriors intercept her caravan and demand that she marry their leader -- the handsome, quick-tempered laird Connor MacAlister, the same man she'd repeatedly proposed to as a child while he'd been a visitor to her father's castle.

Though Brenna scarcely remembers the secret missives she'd sent to MacAlister declaring her love, she has never forgotten the tall visitor's dazzling, unexpected smile. Now older and wiser, Brenna harbors no illusions that Connor is in love with her -- indeed, after a hasty forest wedding, Connor assures her she can return home once she has borne him a son. Lady Brenna has no idea that her capture is merely the first act of vengeance against her betrothed, Connor's sworn enemy.

Determined to be happy, Brenna soon endears herself to most of the MacAlister clan, despite -- or perhaps because of -- her uncanny knack for getting into trouble. And although she comes to adore her brave, superstitious, gentle husband, she has no clue that Connor lives for the moments she whispers "I love you"...words she never meant him to hear. But, as she sets out to win the heart of the brave chieftain, a legacy of revenge ensnares Brenna in a furious clan war -- and only her faith in her gallant husband can save her....

First half snoozer, second half amazing!

Would you consider the audio edition of The Wedding to be better than the print version?

I've not read the print version of this book. However, the audio version allows the narrator the ability to inflect emotion into the "voices" of the characters.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Wedding?

When Connor returns to the castle on horseback and snatches Brenna off the ground during full gallop, he is just realizing what she means to him.

Any additional comments?

The first half of the story set the stage for the second half, it was snow moving and made me wonder how long it would take to get through the rest of the story. But once the second half started, I actually did listen all in one sitting. It was such a "page turner" that I ended up listening to it late into the night and left me so revved up that I couldn't fall asleep right away. I got up, worked for a couple of hours, then finally falling asleep in the wee hours of the morning. I haven't had a book do that to me in a long, long time.

great Garwood story/Horrible narrator

No matter what a narrator is like, I get use to them. Not this one.

Not my fav

This author is one of my favorite. However, this book is not my favorite of hers. Tends to ramble and talk in circles about the same subject. Characters not as lovable as past main characters. Most books are pretty humorous this is lacking. I say all this not to bash the book just saying why 4 not 5 stars.

Fun, Romantic, Beautiful Story

Years ago, The Wedding was the second historical romance novel I had ever read, coming right on the heels of The Bride. I adore both stories and when I needed a guaranteed awesome escapism book, decided to listen to them on audio.

The Bride, narrated by Rosalyn Landor, was brilliantly done. Maybe because I had such high expectations for The Wedding, Heather Wilds, who has a lovely, comfortable voice to listen to, really disappointed me. The warriors often sounded like pre-pubescent boys or teens and so I had a tough time imagining them as manly Highland warriors. Also, even though the words themselves were the right ones for the times, the heroine sounded like she had walked straight off the pages of a contemporary romance novel.

As I said, Ms. Wilds has a lovely voice, but I wasn't able to stay immersed in the story due to the way she portrayed the characters.

All that said, I truly did enjoy the story.

I love Julie Garwood, but this reader.

I have loved these stories from Julie Garwood for YEARS and was extremely excited to find them on audible. They make me smile continuously!
But this narrator, Heather Wilds, was difficult to listen to. She's not very good at making different voices, so it was hard to tell characters apart. except for Brenna. She did amazing with Brenna. she also did not give very much, or at all in most cases, inflections to sentences that weren't being spoken by Brenna. Descriptor lines or thoughts were all the same tone, speed and tempo. Made a fun story, almost boring.
