Publisher's summary

From Liane Moriarty, author of the number-one New York Times best sellers Big Little Lies and Nine Perfect Strangers, comes an unforgettable novel defined by her signature sharp wit, pause-resisting storyline, and lovable and eccentric characters.

A family secret explodes. A first kiss betrays. A mystery is solved. A marriage is tested. It all happens on one extraordinary night - the Last Anniversary!

Sophie Honeywell always wondered if Thomas Gordon was the one who got away. He was the perfect boyfriend, but on the day he was going to propose, she broke his heart. A year later, he married his travel agent, while Sophie has been mortifyingly single ever since. Now, Thomas is back in her life because Sophie has unexpectedly inherited his aunt Connie's house on Scribbly Gum Island - home of the famously unsolved Munro Baby mystery.

Sophie moves onto the island and begins a new life as part of an unconventional family where it seems everyone has a secret. Grace, a beautiful young mother, is feverishly planning a shocking escape from her perfect life. Margie, a frumpy housewife, has made a pact with a stranger, while dreamy Aunt Rose wonders if maybe it's about time she started making her own decisions.

As Sophie's life becomes increasingly complicated, she discovers that sometimes you have to stop waiting around - and come up with your own fairy-tale ending.

Good story but narrator very flat

The story was interesting, but the narrator would be better suited for biography’s or non fiction. She has a nice voice, but has no emotion, so doesn’t bring the characters to life. I think the story would have benefited from a more spirited or lively narrator.

Fun story, terrible narrator

I almost quit this multiple times because the e narrator was TERRIBLE. Kept on bc I know I trust the author but honestly they should re-record this.

Is she reading the news?

I have no idea if the story is good or not, I can't get past the horrible narration. If you love monotone readings of the news, you'll love this! I do not. I'm not sure the book deserves 3 stars, but Moriarty typically writes memorable, engaging, original stories, so I'm giving her the benefit of the doubt and offering 3 stars DESPITE the terrible narration.

WORST NARRATOR IVE EVER HEARD

I Like Moriarty's books but getting through this was so hard because the narrator was so incredibly awful. truly the worst narrator ive ever heard. flat and seriously just so so bad, i had to try so hard to concentrate on the actual story.

It’s as though another writer wrote this book

I have loved every single book by the author but this one... it was as though another writer wrote it. It never got interesting. It never had that exciting ending. It was just blah. I lost interest so many times but kept going hoping it would get exciting but it never did.

Engaging

Moriarty is one of this reader's favorite storytellers! The Last Anniversary is not the best of her books (only because the others are amazingly well developed). I enjoyed this book, and absolutely loved the little twist at the very end!

Who was who?!

I enjoyed this story, but as an audio book it was hard to follow which character was narrating at times.

Lianne Moriarty delivers again

As always, Lianne Moriarty delights with a fun, insightful family drama. Loved it and Heather Wilds is a great reader.

Great story. Strange and distracting narration.

The narrator's oddly clipped style and rather jarring cadence made it difficult to follow the story line. I found it necessary to rewind and re-listen far too often. But, I thoroughly loved the story!, although probably would have loved it even more if I read the actual book.
