    "Stubborn Highlander!"

This romantic highland tale is a very simple story that starts out slow (for character development & interest) and ends nice. Laurel and Conor are both very stubborn which gives this love story spunk and chemistry. Although the first half was a bit slow it did pick up and kept me interested. All the other characters are interesting and well developed which I appreciate.

Also, I have to say, although I enjoyed this book it seemed to be another Cinderella type romance novel rather than a highlander story. There weren't many struggles or battles.....just toward the ending. So, if you go into this book knowing its not a typical highland warrior tale but more of a spunky romance......I think you will enjoy this one.

    "The narrator ruins the story"

I struggled so much to finish this book because of the narrator. So many things were wrong with Ms. Flosnick. She sounds too old to bring life to our young heroine. It was also impossible to distinguish all other characters. All men sounded the same and the midwife sounded like a man. The story is good but the narrator makes this a painfully boring experience.

"BEAUTY & A H'LAND BEAST BUT OPPOSITES CAN ATTRACT"

Imagine it's 1307, you're an English spirited beauty called Laurel and you're happily on your way to Scotland but a villainous evil Laird and his son kills your guards, captures you and describes (in detail) just what they're going to do to you (and you can imagine what that is). However, and thankfully, fate steps in and gives you a chance to escape....... but it's into the arms of another Laird but this one's a most handsome Highland hunk who captures your heart. Now the problem is he can also be an opinionated, stubborn, dictatorial brute of a man who's used to getting his own way...... and he makes it clear that he wants you, sexually, right from the start but alas it's just not the 'forever' deal.

Thankfully, Conor's bark is worse than his bite (he's a sweet pussy-cat really) and although there's instant attraction between both of you and obvious sexual chemistry as he teases, kisses, caresses and takes you further than any man before has done, but he still denies and fights that nothing more can ever happen but he jealously guards and possesses you. Yes, he's in denial and insists that he NEVER EVER intends to wed...... well you'd scream too right?

This is an entertaining, amusing, pleasurable (but slow paced) listen that's filled with interesting and good natured characters who try to make their stubborn Laird see sense however it probably won't get your pulse pounding but you should enjoy the witty banter and lengthy steps a woman takes for the man she wants and loves. There's the kidnapping and rescue, a man in torment & denial, a sweet tender sexy romance, a virgin to seduce, secrets to be uncovered, revenge and a family to be reunited which should all keep you happily engrossed in this enjoyable Highland story that'll transport you back in time as you visualise and share a wee peek into Clan McTiernay's lives.

Worth a credit? Yes, if you want a light, charming, easy-going Highland tale that should keep you enthralled in the lover's plight (and fights) for hours and if you're not expecting an action-packed listen. However, there's a few 'iffy' parts that wouldn't really suit the 'factually correct' listener - but hey this is just a good FICTIONAL Historical romance so if you prefer 'historical accuracy' from your books then maybe pass on this one. Whereas I'm eagerly and happily waiting for book 2.

    "Delicious!"

This book was so delicious and captivating I couldn't put it down. Anne Flosnik who is one of my favorite narrator did it again for me. I listened/read this book in one day. I really liked the spirit of Laurel, the author portrayed her very well and the other ladies around her. I also loved Conor, although a bit too stand offish in the beginning but she broke him right down. There are many brothers in this series so hopefully, there will be more books to come to let us know about the others and a little peek into what has been happening with our first McTiernays! A great read anyone!

"Weak narrator adds nothing to weak story"
    Any additional comments?

The storyline was boring, the dialog often nonsensical and the characters had conflicting personality traits. Unfortunately the narrator did not add to this book at all. Although she was able to produce a credible mail voice she was often monotone and told the story without inflections.

    "Love story... Hate narrator!!!"
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

The book itself defiantly. I love the book. Laurel and Conor are wonderful characters and I fell in love with every brother and couldn't wait to read their story. Laurel is a bad ass. She can ride, she can hunt, and she stands up and doesn't take shit from anybody. Conor is a devoted laird and a hard man but he is so caring. I couldn't help but feel for the characters.

What did you like best about this story?

The test of wills between Conor and Laurel. He keeps trying to control her and she shows him that there is different ways to show you love someone

Would you be willing to try another one of Anne Flosnik’s performances?

No I would not listen to another one of her reading. She is so bland and I don't know what it is with some people reading but the Scottish sometimes sounds a little Swedish. I got bored with her. I wanted something to listen to in the car or just to help relax and I just got annoyed listening to her.

Could you see The Highlander's Bride being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?

I really wish someone would make a romance novel into a movie or tv show. I really don't know who I would choose to play the leads though.

    Any additional comments?

Get the book you'll love it. I wouldn't advice listening to the audible unless they got a a different narrator.

"Story is pretty good. Narrator is worse I've heard"
Who was your favorite character and why?

Conner. Idk why. Maybe because he puts up with Laurel.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

Narrator was extremely difficult to listen to.

    Any additional comments?

At first I couldn't get past the horrible narrator. I typically do not write negative reviews so I feel bad for saying something. One thing that helped with the narration was to speed it up to 1.25. That made it better. I was glad I gave the book a chance because I didn't want to stop listening because of the narrator. That isn't fair to the author. The story is a typical highlander story. I love them all. I didn't like the main female at all for most of the book. It seems the author wanted her to portray a typical feisty Scottish type female, but my first impression of her was that she was just rude and not very likeable. Toward the end of the book I started to have an appreciation to her spunkiness! So I'd recommend listening to a sample to see if you can tolerate the narrator.....but try not to judge the book on it and give it a chance.

"Highland Romance Full of Love and War"

I enjoyed this book mainly because I overlooked some of the silly details that might annoy some readers. If you approach this book with the expectation of great adventure, villains, and multi-dimensional characters, you might be disappointed because more than anything this is a relationship book. The focus is on a Highlander relationship where the only substantial war that occurs is between lovers.

Since I enjoy books that focus on the relationship development between the leads, this book was an enjoyable and fun read. Laird Conor McTiernay and Laurel Cordell meet in the woods as she is fleeing from her captors (son of the McDonald Laird). As a beautiful damsel in distress, Laurel moves Conor like no other woman has and of course, he is smitten. Yet, Conor has his own "growing up" to do because he is a classic commit-a-phobe. He can't bear the idea of getting married and has sworn he will never marry.

Ultimately, his philosophy gets challenged when he wants to keep Laurel scandalously close, without the commitment of marriage, and she makes sure to fight him on that. I LOVE how feisty Laurel is as she lays down the law with him in front of his clansman.

The McTiernay clan is quite friendly and they all love Laurel and tend to take her side or worry for her when she and Conor have arguments (to his annoyance). I thought it was so cute & funny how Conor finally decides marriage to Laurel is in his best interest and then, when they argue, Laurel throws it back in his face yelling, "I'm not marrying you!" LOL

I have to say that the passionate love and war that goes on between these two was most enjoyable...I just thought it was so funny how they would not hold back in yelling at one another and then later, of course, the make-up part was great. Both leads have great chemistry and there are steamy love scenes.

I think you have to be in the mood to read a book like this. Even though I thought this book enjoyable, I'm not in a rush to delve into the series (not sure if I ever will be). Depending on my mood, this story ranges from 3 STARS TO 4 STARS.

Narrator: Poor Anne Flosnik...I always have to acclimate to her gravely, thick voice. She struggles with accents...both her Scottish and British English accent sound the same. She is by no means my favorite narrator, but it's one of those things in which you just have to suck it up if you really want to hear the story.
