Publisher's Summary

Number-one New York Times best-selling author Nora Roberts returns with the classic tales of the MacKade brothers - their rebellions, their passions, and their loves.

Shane MacKade enjoyed everything about women - the look of them, the smell of them, the taste of them. So the last thing he expected was to become a one-woman man. And even more surprising is that it's the Ph.D.-toting academic Rebecca McKnight who has him headed for a fall. Could Shane's days as a bachelor be coming to an end?

    "Not the best"

I have enjoyed all the Mackade Brothers books and Luke Daniels narration except for the female lead in this one. She sound infantile. When he read Rebecca I was cringing as I listened. Love those sexy brothers though.

    "The narrator was too much!"
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

The story was good,as most of Nora Roberts are.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Shane himself. As with all the MacKade brothers...yummmm

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Luke Daniels?

Luke Daniels has a wonderful voice, but honestly he should never attempt women or children voices! Almost didn't get through the series because of him. Rebecca's voice was the absolute most ridiculous. For being a genius, and for being someone that might interest the suave Shane..she sounded like a little baby! It was difficult to get by.

"Falling Can Be Good for You"
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

Yes, it is a charming story well-performed with a nice romance and a bit of supernatural mystery.

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

I liked the opposites attract relationship between Shane and Rebecca.

What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?

The narrator has a nice voice with a good, fluid style and subtle but unmistakable differentiations between characters.

Do you think The Fall of Shane MacKade needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

No, it stands on its own. However it is part of the Brothers MacKade series so there are more chances to read about the characters of this novel.

    "#4 in the Series"

This series was first published in 1996, so some of it seems dated, but not enough to ruin the book. The stories are of the 4 brothers MacKade who each fall in love, have a complication that is worked through and resolve to a happy ending. They are sweet, not sexually explicit and with enough drama to hold interest.

The narrator did not do well with the female character in this book - other books were actually better with female narration - maybe he felt he had run out of female voices, His voice portrayal of her made her seem like a 15 year old. But, all in all, I enjoyed the 4 books. I do enjoy Nora Roberts and binge on a series of hers, like this one, now and then.

"Perfect ending for a wonderful series."

This last book in the series was the best yet. It tied all four together and have a wonderful ending to the historical story that was woven into the four books. This is one of the best series I've ever read.

    Story
    "Funny and Touching"
Would you consider the audio edition of The Fall of Shane MacKade to be better than the print version?

Yes. But I love all of Luke Daniel's narrations. He really brings the book alive.

What did you like best about this story?

I loved Rebecca's cool, calm and doctor like assessments of Shane when they were arguing. It made him even more mad, but it really cracked me up.

What about Luke Daniels’s performance did you like?

He really makes the leading men in this serious so sexy. It was nice to finally meet Shane.

However, I struggled at one point with Rebecca's voice. It was slightly childish, which I could stand, but when **spoiler** she got drunk on a bottle of wine and tried to seduce Shane, she sounded, at most, like a 6 year old. The ick factor of listening to what sounded like a first grader trying to get a full grown man to sleep with her was so gross that it really killed what was supposed to be a really funny scene.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

    Farm Boy.

    Any additional comments?

Very enjoyable book. Shane has been my favorite brother throughout the series, and I was really looking forward to his story. He is the farm boy out of the bunch, and being born and raised on a farm, I was interested what Nora Roberts would do with a farm boy. I was not disappointed. Rebecca was very likable as well, and watching her discover the farm and herself was really sweet.

Overall, I would suggest this series for any Nora Robert's fan, and for any romance novel fans who happen to like the civil war. If you need a quick escape, these books give a really humorous, yet touching story to fall into. I would suggest reading the entire series in order, just so you aren't spoiled at the outcomes of the others. However, this is a romance novel, so the leading man and leading lady of each are pretty much going to end up together, so reading them out of order might not spoil much, but you'll miss the three backstories needed for the conclusion of the ghosts.
