The Fall of Shane MacKade: The MacKade Brothers, Book 4 | [Nora Roberts]

The Fall of Shane MacKade: The MacKade Brothers, Book 4

Shane MacKade enjoyed everything about women - the look of them, the smell of them, the taste of them. So the last thing he expected was to become a one-woman man. And even more surprising is that it's the Ph.D.-toting academic Rebecca McKnight who has him headed for a fall. Could Shane's days as a bachelor be coming to an end?

I have enjoyed all the Mackade Brothers books and Luke Daniels narration except for the female lead in this one. She sound infantile. When he read Rebecca I was cringing as I listened. Love those sexy brothers though.

    "The narrator was too much!"
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

The story was good,as most of Nora Roberts are.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Shane himself. As with all the MacKade brothers...yummmm

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Luke Daniels?

Luke Daniels has a wonderful voice, but honestly he should never attempt women or children voices! Almost didn't get through the series because of him. Rebecca's voice was the absolute most ridiculous. For being a genius, and for being someone that might interest the suave Shane..she sounded like a little baby! It was difficult to get by.

"Falling Can Be Good for You"
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

Yes, it is a charming story well-performed with a nice romance and a bit of supernatural mystery.

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

I liked the opposites attract relationship between Shane and Rebecca.

What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?

The narrator has a nice voice with a good, fluid style and subtle but unmistakable differentiations between characters.

Do you think The Fall of Shane MacKade needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

No, it stands on its own. However it is part of the Brothers MacKade series so there are more chances to read about the characters of this novel.

    "Funny and Touching"
Would you consider the audio edition of The Fall of Shane MacKade to be better than the print version?

Yes. But I love all of Luke Daniel's narrations. He really brings the book alive.

What did you like best about this story?

I loved Rebecca's cool, calm and doctor like assessments of Shane when they were arguing. It made him even more mad, but it really cracked me up.

What about Luke Daniels’s performance did you like?

He really makes the leading men in this serious so sexy. It was nice to finally meet Shane.

However, I struggled at one point with Rebecca's voice. It was slightly childish, which I could stand, but when **spoiler** she got drunk on a bottle of wine and tried to seduce Shane, she sounded, at most, like a 6 year old. The ick factor of listening to what sounded like a first grader trying to get a full grown man to sleep with her was so gross that it really killed what was supposed to be a really funny scene.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

    Farm Boy.

    Any additional comments?

Very enjoyable book. Shane has been my favorite brother throughout the series, and I was really looking forward to his story. He is the farm boy out of the bunch, and being born and raised on a farm, I was interested what Nora Roberts would do with a farm boy. I was not disappointed. Rebecca was very likable as well, and watching her discover the farm and herself was really sweet.

Overall, I would suggest this series for any Nora Robert's fan, and for any romance novel fans who happen to like the civil war. If you need a quick escape, these books give a really humorous, yet touching story to fall into. I would suggest reading the entire series in order, just so you aren't spoiled at the outcomes of the others. However, this is a romance novel, so the leading man and leading lady of each are pretty much going to end up together, so reading them out of order might not spoil much, but you'll miss the three backstories needed for the conclusion of the ghosts.

    "Lackluster conclusion to quartet"

While I really enjoyed the first three books in this quartet this one was only so so. I really didn't care for the main female character, Rebecca, and I tried. I liked Shane and seeing glimpses of the lives of the couples in the first three books but I couldn't see why he liked Rebecca. The voice the narrator uses for Rebecca was also horrible. It was hard to get through. The first three books he narrated were much better.

    "No more MacKade Brothers"
Would you try another book from Nora Roberts and/or Luke Daniels?

I just finished listening to Nora Robert's Chesapeake Bay series and I needed another Robert's book because that series as well as the performances by the 2 narrators was awesome.

If you’ve listened to books by Nora Roberts before, how does this one compare?

This one is HORRIBLE compared to the other series. There is no depth or wit like in the Chesapeake Bay series.

Would you listen to another book narrated by Luke Daniels?

Luke Daniels is horrible when it comes to the women's voices. He makes the main female character sound like some reject.

"SHE SAVED THE BEST 'TIL LAST"

As the only single and youngest of the MacKade brothers is finally hit over the head by Cupid's Bow he becomes lost. As Shane, the once happy-go-lucky handsome ladies man, is unusually out of his depth, frustrated, angry, lust filled and his emotions are tied up in knots when he meets the skinny, nerdy, frustrating, brilliant at everything but cooking Academic called Rebecca.

This was lol funny, very entertaining, was so richly detailed, had very light sex scenes, there was the usual cast of MacKades and their ever growing families and a passionate romance that neither Shane nor Rebecca was expecting. Also, as with the other three books, is the sub story of the tragic lives of the ghosts which was partly uncovered and put to rest as some spooky things started happening.

Worth a credit? No, as it was only $7.34 which is what you'd expect for a light, easy-going listen and, although it was quite short, it was still a very very enjoyable story and I'm going to miss each and every one of the loveable MacKade family.
