New York Times best-selling author Cathy Maxwell returns with her most unforgettable novel about the Chattan family yet....
They call her the Unattainable. Lady Margaret Chattan spurned every suitor for her hand, vowing never to marry. The only way to break the curse plaguing her family for two centuries is this ultimate sacrifice. But now her brothers' lives are in danger. Determined to save them, she risks her very soul by traveling into the heart of the Highlands to battle a force that has transcended time.
Heath Macnachtan is not superstitious. Laird of the most independent, nonconforming, madly infuriating clan ever to grace Scotland, he believes he has his hands full. And then a woman lauded as one of the most beautiful in England arrives on his doorstep with wild accusations and a mystical quest...one that just might help him discover who murdered his own brother.
But the real danger for Heath and Margaret is not a supernatural foe, but a very real love that could destroy them both.

After reading this book, I’m glad I read it out of order. It would have been depressing to read a love story only to have it end with an affliction bestowed upon the hero. Well no worries here since it all ends as it should. I love Maggie’s personality in this book. She is kind and giving but most importantly I adore that she takes risks in order to save those she loves. A good lesson for us all.
I do find the passion scenes very blah and unmoving. A bit more passion would have been better than just getting the deed done and then saying I can’t believe it was supposed to feel this good. Huh? I was confused as to what part of wham bam thank you ma’am was so extraordinary. Anyway, if you can overlook that as well as anything to do with the reality of a curse, then you are in luck with this book.
Totally addicted to Audible.
I am not a fan of supernatural themes but it is woven so soundly into this story it is almost believable. Margaret the unattainable falls in love trying to save her brothers in this totally entertaining tale. And of course Rosalyn Landor is the best.
I love being swept away by a new romance and thankfully Audible's ever growing Library means I get to indulge myself over and over again
Oh no it's finished - last of the Regency trilogy about the Chattan curse and what an enjoyable finish it was.
The beautiful Margaret seeks an end to the curse which is believed to be destroying her brothers which takes her to the Highlands and into the arms of Laird Heath (a kind and thoughtful Highland hunk). A passionate tale of curses, the paranormal, romance, double crossings, murder, mystery, danger, healing, forgiveness, memorable characters and a magic white cat called Owl.
Worth a credit? Yes, and it could be a stand alone listen but book 1 Lyon's Bride and 2 The Scottish Witch are enjoyable too.
I really enjoyed this series and I thought this was a great story to end with. The story was believable even though it had a bit of a historical mystical tale. The characters were very well developed, but you need to listen to the first two books in the series before listening to this final book. It is a very good series, but I wouldn't recommend the books as standalone books.
The narrator is one of my all time favorites. She's fantastic.
Great series and a great story. Well worth the credit.
No lies, no secrets and behavior that is believable. Straight forward entertainment. The Heros and heroines never make ridiculous choices so her plots have substance. Maxwell is a breath of fresh air to read and in my opinion the best romance writer out there. Always a little humor, that makes you feel good, a little danger and always something more. I think the most important thing are characters I can like. What each Maxwell book is about does not really matter to me... It's the writing style that I enjoy so much. I wait patiently for another.
A fan from Alexandria, Virginia
Enjoyed the characters and book! The love story was beautiful and healing. Highly recommend it. Loved it!
Loving my life and hanging out with my four grandchildren!
Wow! I was so very pleased with this complete series and would recommend each book highly!! This was a book I got on the recommendation from others reviews. I am so happy I did! The story comes to an end in this third book, and it ends with a bang. I was very pleased with each and every installment. Ms Maxwell did a wonderful job. Wish I could find another written this well. Worth every credit paid! If you like romance, sinister forces that need to be defeated, and a murder mystery all rolled into one, this one is it! Nothing but praise for Ms. Landor!!
Ok, it's time for Margaret to kick the witch and do away with this ridiculous curse. She and the Laird did it. Rosalyn Landor as usual was awesome. Great job.
I love all genres of books. However, when I listen to audio books as I clean, garden, drive they are better with a lot of heat!
THE DEVIL'S HEART by Cathy Maxwell is an exciting Scottish Historical Romance with magical elements set in 1814 Scotland. #3 and final installment in "The Chattan Curse",but can be read as a stand alone. See,"Lyon's Bride",and "The Scottish Witch". What a wonderful conclusion for the English Chattan family and the Macnachtan Clan. Follow, Lady Margret Chattan, the most "Unattainable" lady in England Society, whose plaqued by the "Chattan Curse", her brothers Lyon, and Neil are dying due to this centuries old curse. Margret sets off to the Scottish Highlands to break the curse, and save her beloved brothers but what she finds is the power of love. Heath Macnachtan, the Macnachtan clan's Laird,a poor clan burdened with debt and determined to find is older brother's murderer, what he finds is the beautiful Lady Margret. They are bitter enemies, if you have not read any of this amazing trilogy, than I don't want to give any seek peeks, but let me say the curse effects both families, the Chattan and the Macnachtan clan. Fast paced, filled with danger, magic, passion, betrayal and love. You will not be disappointed in the "The Devil's Heart" with a bit of magic and the power of love, an evil witch must be defeated in order to save both the first female Chattan, and the last Macnachtan. A powerful story of love, forgiveness, healing and family. With a bit of humor at times, I found myself smiling at times. If you have read the other two in this amazing trilogy, I would highly recommend all three in this powerful trilogy. You will not be disappointed. Ms. Maxwell is a wonderful storyteller, with powerful plots, who characters are realistic, memorable and engaging. A must read for anyone who enjoys Scotland, historical romance, England, folklore, and a great listen.
Rosalyn Landor as always was outstanding with the delivery of the story.
HEAT RATING: MILD
"week heading to a somewhat different trilogy"
Better ending, that does not leave one confused and frustrated.
No, it has not, since it tried something a little different for a change.
Rosalyn Landor is just absolutely perfect, no matter how week the book, she makes it worth listening!
It was the end of the trilogy, so not to listen to is would have been worse.
Listen to it, if you have followed the story through the first two instalments, but definitely not on its own!
