Publisher's summary

When her late father was branded a traitor to the king, Catherine Percy found sanctuary in Scotland. But a case of mistaken identity put her in a compromising position with the Highland earl sworn to protect her. Marriage to him saved her reputation, but nothing could save her from the stormy passion that bent her innocent body to his will - and shattered his last defense.

The acclaimed author of The Thistle and the Rose presents an exciting new trilogy. Three sisters each hold a clue to their family's treasure - and the key to the hearts of three Highland warriors....

Different story line for me

I decided to try a romance novel on audio and the storyline for this was interesting enough to give it a try. I thought about returning it but as I got to Chapter 3 I was interested in what would happen with the characters. I think I would have enjoyed it more if I would have read it instead of listening. The author did a great job on descriptions as well as the storyline but I think romance novels are just not my thing.

I have loved this story for years!

I read this story 15 years ago and I still reread it. It is so nice to listen to it now. I love this trilogy. Good read .

Interesting Plot

The story has a lot going on, which would have been more interesting if the narrator had taken a breath or pause when the scene changed. Everything kind of ran together and it often took me a minute or two to realize we had switched scenes. Overall I think it has a good plot with good characters but in my opinion would be better read in print than listened to.

My favorite!

Surprises at every corner. There are a few places when the story shifted and I wasn’t sure what was going on but the strong characters of John and Catherine and believable story line had me hooked. I laughed all the way through!!

Relic vs treasure

I had trouble following this as the narration was just not pulling me in. The Relic series was so good i wanted to keep going but it was not the same.

Lovely story ruined - again - by narrator

I love May McGoldrick stories BUT they have not been well served by the poor narrators. Ms Urquhart is okay albeit in a monotone voice for the women’s parts but is horrible for the men.

Please Audible or Tantor or whatever company produces these books - pick a narrator that won’t ruin or hinder the story and the characters the authors have created

Change the speed to 0.9!

Almost didn’t give this a try due to the reviews of the narrator. Glad I did. Once I changed the speed to 0.9 the book was great.

Good story; ok narration

As always I enjoy stories by this couple under the pseudonym of May McGoldrick. The banter between the hero and the heroine was very entertaining. The plot was intriguing from the very beginning and I could not wait to get to the end. What I particularly enjoy about McGoldrick's stories is that there are no wasted words. There is just enough inner thoughts to let the reader/listener know what the characters are thinking but it does not go on and on becoming boring and insufferable. This book is not too wordy and is just long enough. I am waiting with great anticipation for the stories of Catherine's other two sisters in the next installments of the series.

There were several interesting secondary characters that gave the story interest without adding too many details that can make the plot hard to follow. The ending was just right and nicely set the stage for the next book.

I would have given this audiobook 5 stars had someone other than Ruth Urqhart had narrated it or if she had not read as if she was trying to teach a child to read. Her reading was somewhat halting enunciating each word like she was reading to elementary school kids. She did not bring the characters to life for me. The male characters did not sound like warriors. I have listened to her narrate other books; she did a better job with those narrations. To be honest I bought the book when I purchased the audiobook and read about 60 percent of the story. She is narrating the book coming out next week and I hope the reading of it is better than this one. I would like to hear more emotion, and smoother reading. I will buy the next audiobook. I hope it does not disappoint. I know I will enjoy the story and am looking forward to it.
