Book was good but ending was abrupt.

this is book 2 of the new species series. and all the books intertwine.
A lot of the book takes place in the woods and the ending was very abrupt, it just ended. I hope book 3 is better.

good audio version of a great series

New Species is a total departure from the typical fantasy romance. You can't even really call it a new twist on anything it's unique (for now at least). Laurann Dohner is one of those writers that if she wasn't called a "romance" writer she'd be way more famous. Slade is a cocky funny character and the "they don't know that the other likes them as much as they do" story line is handled in a funny and amusing way. As for the narration. I'm pretty impressed. Ellora's Cave narrators aren't always the best but they did good with Vanessa Chambers. She has a good range of voice for both male and female and gives them enough variety that they don't all sound the same. Although I'd love to see what Amanda Ronconi could do with these books!

I love Slade! The story line keeps getting better and better! I read about 100 books a year.. and I can say this Series is turning out to be the best ever!

I love me some Slade, I love his cocky self-assured ways. I love how he seems kind of like a guy you want to punch in the face. His wit. I just love Slade.

I am not a huge fan of Trisha though; I feel like she should have just listened a lot more and stopped questioning everything Slade said. He has the heighted abilities. She doesn't so she needed to zip it and trust in him.

I have to say I also loved the banter between the other New Species and Trisha of all the things about this book I really enjoyed that. Also when Trisha goes to Justices and talks to him and she finally tells him to shut it so she could talk.. Yeah favorite scene right there!

Vanessa Chambers again awesome, like I said before she does a great job with this series.

Slade -- Boy or Man?

I'm loving this paranormal romance series. Slade is funny because he's goes from puffing up his chest showing what a big, strong, protector alpha male he is to sulking like a petulant adolescent. Aww, but what do you expect from a male that's been kept in a cage for most of his life. The humor helps to keep the story fun.

New Species are very sexual beings so be prepared for explicit sex scenes.

I have listened to the entire series several times so definitely worth the credit.

This was a very good story. I really enjoyed Trisha and Slade. Trisha is great and Slade is cool once he gets things straight. I'm really liking this series!

Trisha is a doctor. She first met the New Species (NS) when she worked at a regular hospital. A NS male (who ends up being Slade) is brought in after the labs were raided and the NS captives released. When Trisha goes in to his room to check on him he almost seduces her before she's saved by the other doctors and nurses. She never forgot Slade though and when she found out the NS were looking for a doctor she applied for the job. Unfortunately, when she meets Slade again he doesn't even recognize her.

Slade is a NS and third in command of the NSO (New Species Organization).He's a good guy but tends to stick his foot in his mouth when it comes to Trisha. When they first meet he doesn't realize who she is and acts like a jerk. Once he realizes that she's the woman he's been longing for, he doesn't learn his lesson and start trying to win her over...instead, he starts avoiding her except when he can't and then he tends to still act like a jerk. Fortunately, Slade gets past this eventually (unfortunately, it doesn't happen immediately).

The NSO has 2 locations, Homeland and a new site, called the Reserve, that's just being opened (this one further in the wilderness to keep the NS people safer from humanity that wants to harm them). Justice and a number of others (Trisha and Slade included) are travelling there for a meeting when trouble arises. Slade and Trisha find themselves thrust together in a dangerous situation and the attraction between them explodes. Things heat up between them and Slade claims Trisha as his. Unfortunately, once the danger is over, Slade is convinced that being with him will just make things more dangerous for Trisha so he stays away, much to her dismay.

After a few weeks, Trisha becomes aware of something that causes much excitement but also fear in the NS community. (view spoiler). This puts Trisha in to major danger and they decide she's to be moved to the Reserve because it'll be safer for her. Slade has been working at the Reserve, supervising the construction crews and such as they try to complete the site. When Trisha is sent out there, Slade doesn't handle seeing her well and has trouble staying away from her. In typical Slade mode, he sticks his foot in his mouth where Trisha is concerned and makes things worse before they get better. He does manage to pull his foot out though and eventually Slade and Trisha work things out. There are some additional dangers that Trisha needs protected from and things get hairy but things turn out ok (for the time being at least) and Slade and Trisha get their HEA.

This was a very good story. I really liked Trisha and I liked Slade too (once he past his reoccurring bouts of relationship stupidity). This story was very engaging and made me want more so I'm continuing on to book #3 (Valiant's book!) immediately. I'd recommend this book. Thumbs up! :)

What does Vanessa Chambers bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

The narrator is the reason that I have purchased every audio book in this series. The story is good but the narrator Vanessa Chambers makes this book a thousand times better!!! A narrator can totally kill a book and this is an example where the narrator just makes this book AMAZING!!! Great Job

Dr. Trisha Norbit's intellect may categorize her as a genius but she can't seem to figure out why a certain New Species dominates all her thoughts. He was the first New Species she ever treated yet he doesn't remember her. The New Species people intrigued Trisha enough for her to take a job with them only she never counted on that making her a target.

Slade doesn't know why the Doc drives him crazy but she does. He is assigned as her bodyguard but he wouldn't mind doing more to her body than guarding it. When the Doc is sent to the latest New Species home, Reservation he is sent with her. Unfortunately they never make it as their SUV is forced off the road by New Species haters. To make matters worse the enemy wants to make sure they are dead and this sends Slade and Trisha on the run for their lives.

This is another Hot and Steamy intriguing book by Laurann. I love these Alpha mixed bread males that are attracted to us weak female humans and there ability to love even though humans have put them through total Hell. Awesome narration by Vanessa Chambers, she really brings the characters to life....
