Respectful Handling of a Touching Story

I love the Grant Clan and KM! She handled a story of abuse and PTSD with respect, humility, and mostly love. The average reader may find this story too rough, phyically and emotionally, especially if you look for escape reading. But if you want something that touches your mind, heart, and soul - this one's for you.

Best Highlander Book

This is one of the best Highlander series I have read in a while. It show the good and bad side of the era. The main herein seems weak but she's anything but she is so strong mentally and physically she give true meaning to steel magnolias . The hero seems like a brute but the more u get to know him the sweeter he is about those whom he loves plus it's the time period you have to remember . Worth money or credit enjoy!!!! Great narrator

Respect is sexy

I caught the first part but, alas, skipped a few chapters. When I caught up with the story line, I was pleased with the fact that the relationship wasn't hinged upon physical chemistry alone, but upon mutual respect and love.
Another winning point, the priest wasn't stereotyped. Catholic priests are human beings and subject to being as good or as bad as anyone else, it was refreshing to see a priest portrayed as a true shepherd of his people.
My Dad defined a solid marriage as this: "when the other person's well being and happiness is more important to you than your own" He was married to my mother for 50 years.
The love scenes were exactly that, love scenes. They were a natural expression of the characters growing respect and love for each other.
The abuse was well written and probably integral to the understanding of the depth of damage their love had to overcome, but it did not spare the reality. Some parts of even the best books are endured for the rewards of the resolution and the beauty of the story. It provides the contrast necessary to provide a realistic portrayal, however, it wasn't easy nor pleasant.
Generally well written and evocative, not a literary great in my library, but I appreciate the time and effort it took to tell the story.

Really terrible

I don’t know why I listened to the whole thing. The dialogue was predictable. The story had potential but lacked depth.

Do not pass this one up

Really enjoyed this story made more authentic by the narrator! Loved the character interactions and the plot twist later in the story!

Boring. Not much of a story line.

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Rescued by a Highlander?

scene after scene of processing rape, trauma and PTSD. When I listen to books I want to be entertained and this never really got my attention. The author handles rape and torture with sensitivity but that is not a world I want to be engrossed in, even if it does have a Scottish accent.

Loved the story but the narration is a bit poor

The story is kind of like a Nora Roberts love story where it leads up to the plot with little romance in the beginning. I think the story would have been much better is the narrator didn't sound like he was having challenges speaking. He made the females sound stupid and whiney.

Very difficult to read

It is wonderful to have a story that champions battered women. However, the character development was poor, the narration seemed forced, and the story was too predictable and well, boring. (and when you call a historical romance novel predictable- that's bad considering roughly the same formula is used )

I've listened to over 30 books this summer and this one was my least favorite. I hope you as a listener enjoy it much more than I did

Bleh

I don't know this book just wasn't good to me. It was kind of a struggle to finish it. Alex just bothered me, he seemed to like not want to get married if he couldn't have sex with Maddie... and I mean for Frick's sake she's been through enough. I don't know he just leaves me feeling kind of nauseous. I also didn't like what Maddie said or thought that husband had a RIGHT to see her body. maybe I just struggled with the mentality of this time period, I don't know. Also, the way this story is told and all of the back and forth POV switches just seemed not up to par and all kind of flat.
