Lord Ferdinand Dudley is accustomed to getting what he wants... that is, until he appears at the door of Pinewood Manor, attempting to claim his rightful estate, and is met by the bewitching fury of Lady Viola Thornhill. She refuses to cede him the home she calls her own. He refuses to leave. So the contest begins. Each day under the same roof brings its share of frustration... and temptation. But Viola knows it is a battle she cannot afford to lose. Marriage is out of the question, and she will be no man’s mistress, even as Dudley’s unnerving presence threatens to melt her resolve. Against his better judgment, Lord Ferdinand Dudley is beguiled. This maddening beauty has stirred him as no woman had before. And now he is bound and determined to make her his own.

Strange, Funny, cocky
She is my favorite narrator, she brings books to life. Another job well done.
Another nice book people
This story had me from the first scene - many twists and turns - excellent characters. Suggest you listen to the mistress series in order - its not necessary but looking back I wish I had as characters are included in subsequent books. If you like Lisa Kleypas you will probably love this story. Some good nail biting, teary scenes where you simply are not sure what will happen next. Totally worth the credit!
Good story and characters, has the lows of falling into too much silent over mind chatter in some chapters but overall enjoyable with a good blend of different characters and some expectant surprises but some not so expectant. The coming together for the final few chapters is great. Light and fun. Narration good and clear, not overpowering or boring.
It's in the upper half. I am a fan of any book Rosalyn Landor writes and this book did offer some nice surprises to put it in the running with my favorite Lisa Kleypas books. It wasn't completely predictable which is always a plus.
I would say it's a toss-up between Viola Thornhill and Ferdinand Dudley.
Ferdinand Dudley and Tresham.
Maybe two or three sittings. I wanted to keep listening but I didn't want it to end too soon.
I've read the first book before and found that this series is wonderful. and Rosalyn Landor does well with the voices. Historical Romance at it's best!!
The narrator was excellent, the story, not so much.
Actually, it started off good, had some interesting ideas, but totally bogged down in the neverending middle. The hero was too good to be true, a paragon. I struggled through the first few hours and was about to give up when there was a spark of interest, an unexpected twist, but then more blah, blah, blah had me skipping chapters and hours of the second half of the book until I listened to the last 30 minutes.
This was my first (and probably last) book by this author. When I enjoy a book in a series and meet characters from a previous book, I often get that book to learn their stories. In this case, I am mildly curious about those characters, but won't be getting the book as I don't have confidence that I could listen to it, fearing another boggy middle.
Tell me a story
I like this book because it is different from other historical romance novels. That being said, it still wouldn't even rank in my top 25 favorite historical romances. The narrator did an excellent job!
YES, IT HELD MY ATTENTION FOR THE ENTIRE BOOK
AWESOME READING, HE SHOULD TEACH OTHER PPL HOW TO READ
IT WAS FUNNY, SERIOUS, AND I LOVED ANGELINE COMPLETE OUTFITS. ESPECIALLY THE HATS.
I love Lord Ferdinand Dudley’s character in this book. He is strong, handsome, gentle, tall with wide shoulders, and of course kind hearted and noble. Can I place an order for that?
Yes. It IS a Pretty Woman version of the movie set in the Renaissance era and I did enjoy listening to this book. If you have not read the first book, purchase it first but not because you have to in order to read this one. I have to admit that the first book is still my favorite but you will not go wrong with purchasing this as well.
