Publisher's summary

Lord Ferdinand Dudley is accustomed to getting what he wants... that is, until he appears at the door of Pinewood Manor, attempting to claim his rightful estate, and is met by the bewitching fury of Lady Viola Thornhill. She refuses to cede him the home she calls her own. He refuses to leave. So the contest begins. Each day under the same roof brings its share of frustration... and temptation. But Viola knows it is a battle she cannot afford to lose. Marriage is out of the question, and she will be no man’s mistress, even as Dudley’s unnerving presence threatens to melt her resolve. Against his better judgment, Lord Ferdinand Dudley is beguiled. This maddening beauty has stirred him as no woman had before. And now he is bound and determined to make her his own.

She is my favorite narrator, she brings books to life. Another job well done.

She made me like a character I disliked

Perhaps the hallmark of a good writer is whether they can persuade you to like a character who you can't stand. This was the case with the heroine, Viola. From the start I felt a dislike for her. Her haughty attitude towardss the hero; Ferdinand, when he was clearly the one caught up in a train wreck and to me seemed to be in the right, was frustrating and had me rooting for her downfall. as the story progressed and I understood even more of her plight it made me come to grudgingly respect her however, I really feel as if she dragged things out way too long before telling her true tale of woe. By the end of th book I did somewhat like Viola and sympathized with her character and that's perhaps a testimony to miss Balog's writing prowess more so than anything else. Well done.

LOVE WHEN LEAST EXPECTED

I really enjoyed this story. Of course, the narrator is one of my favorites, but the story was also very entertaining. Unexpectedly, there is quite a role reversal with a more experienced heroine and a naïve young hero. The characters were believable and the plight of the heroine was more realistic than in most of these type of novels.

Good Story

I have read this book once; and although I didn't like the narrator, it was easy to follow the narrative of the story.

Agree that it is too long

I listened to this book along time ago, had forgotten a lot of it. When I went to listen to it again, I felt that it was just way too tedious. Ended up skipping 10 chapters and coming in right about where I wanted to be. I didn’t need to hear all the “will he find out? will she tell him?” etc. etc. When a good book gets lost in the weeds, It’s a waste of good character development and momentum.

Not as good as the first in series…

…but still good. I believe there is one more book in this series and I think I will buy it as long as Ms. Landor is the narrator. She is talented beyond belief.

"Another Good Listen"

The second in the series and I found the book very enjoyable. Good story and excellent narration with a good blend of different characters and some expectant surprises. The coming together for the final few chapters is great. Light and fun. Narration good and clear, not overpowering or boring. Looking forward to the next in the series.

ENJOYABLE

Good story and characters, has the lows of falling into too much silent over mind chatter in some chapters but overall enjoyable with a good blend of different characters and some expectant surprises but some not so expectant. The coming together for the final few chapters is great. Light and fun. Narration good and clear, not overpowering or boring.

6 Stars

I can't say enough about this book. It has a great story with strong characters and carries the series a step forward while standing on its own merits. The narrator contributed to making this a book worth listening to.

Good Story Shocking Twists that stuck.

I was very glad that the author did not find a way to undo the heroines sins as misunderstanding but let her remain a naughty girl. However, I could not stand her. Like in the first book this chick was like one of the obnoxious wives on reality TV and you love it when they get shaded. Had me wishing he would get with her sister she was so horrible. Lol
