Publisher's summary

The arrogant Duke of Trent intends to marry a well-bred Englishwoman. The last woman he would ever consider marrying is the adventuresome Merry Pelford - an American heiress who has infamously jilted two fiancés.

But after one provocative encounter with the captivating Merry, Trent desires her more than any woman he has ever met. He is determined to have her as his wife, no matter what it takes. And Trent is a man who always gets what he wants.

The problem is Merry is already betrothed, and the former runaway bride has vowed to make it all the way to the altar. As honor clashes with irresistible passion, Trent realizes the stakes are higher than anyone could have imagined. In his battle to save Merry and win her heart, one thing becomes clear:

All is fair in love and war.

fun story

I liked the story, although it was fairy predictable. I was surprised with the numerous, explicit sex scenes.
I will listen to other audio books by Eloisa James if I can find one with fewer love scenes.

Great Read!

Another wonderful book from Eloisa James. A nice twist with an American heiress and twins brothers. One in possession of a dukedom. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a good book you can get wrapped up in.

Excellent!

This is another great book by my favorite author. I've listen to this several times, and I'll probably listen to it several more times. The narration was lovely.

Great addition Eloisa James!

I love historical romance and this was a good one to add to the list!
Is there truly a moment to claim as love at first sight? With that being said, what is love to claim? When you are young and aware that your thoughts start to wander, start to reach out and poke at all the new things around us that we never noticed before...
Of course when we find that new, exciting thing that envelopes our young mind, eager body, and oh so thirsty soul....it has to be love! Well...sadly, as our parents are there to say tell us, when it's true love-there will be no question, you'll know!

So with this being said, My American Duchess is one where the young and charismatic duchess has fallen in and out of love in the States, what better to do than hop across the pond to see what is there.

There is no such thing as love....it's a pointless emotion and has no place! Brothers, twins at that, have goals of their own and much to say and do when an American Duchess comes to visit.

The first born, the second born, an engagement unknown, a chance encounter on a balcony....what to do, what to do?!

I'm Not Sure I Can Finish This

What did you like best about My American Duchess? What did you like least?

The American accent of Merry. Holy cow....so so bad. She sounds like a robit with stick...well never mind. Sorry...just aweful...but the other accents/voices were well done.

What was most disappointing about Eloisa James’s story?

So boring.

Did the narration match the pace of the story?

Merrys did. Slow and painful.

Was My American Duchess worth the listening time?

No

Any additional comments?

Love Kate Reading in most things...but this was not the best.

Great Story, Terrific Narrator

This might be my favorite Eloisa James story yet. Not entirely unpredictable plot, but I much enjoyed the sly humor. Anything Kate Reading reads is fine with me, but in this case her narration much enhanced the humor. I’ll be on the lookout for similar.

Love Kate's voice!

I enjoyed the story and appreciated the straightforward characters. Kate's narration is always a favorite.

My American Duchess

I didn't like how the reader voiced Merry. It would have been better if she just read the story or if someone was Merry's voice. I'll have to try another one of her audibles.

Very enjoyable

I really like this story and Kate Reading is perfect as always. I loved how funny Merry was and that Jack loved that about her. He really did fall for her at first sight...just took him a bit to realize it! But that made for a great story. The best thing is it was not overly wordy. Sometimes Ms. James can get a bit too introspective. I highly recommend.

Meh

Dialogue good, story good, but at the highest point of suspense we are asked to believe a leopard can change his spots.

It was just boring and predictable after that.
