Publisher's summary

A hand-picked cadre of warriors, they had the fierce courage of their Scots forefathers, combined with the stealth and cunning of the Indians who lived beside them in the wilderness. Battling the French in a no-holds-barred combat, they forged a new brand of honor, became a new breed of men - MacKinnon's Rangers.

Iain MacKinnon had been forced to serve the British crown, but compassion urged him to save the lovely lass facing certain death at the hands of the Abenaki. He'd defied his orders, endangered his brothers, his men and his mission, all for a woman. But when he held Annie's sweet body in his arms, he could feel no regret. Though he sensed she was hiding something from him, it was too late to hold back his heart.

In love and war, there are times when the only course of action is...surrender.

OMG - what a find!!!

I don’t know what good luck allowed me stumble across Pamela Clare but I adored this first book and have already downloaded the next one in the series.

I’ve also never heard anything narrated by Kaleo Griffith but he has moved to the head of my list and I will look and buy anything he narrates - including the phone book!! What a great performance!!

Excellent book

I absolutely loved this book. The narrator did an excellent job! He made the book come alive! I love the Colonial/Frontier time period! It is my favorite genre to read and now, listen too! I will start listening to book 2 in this series by Pamela Clare!

The right stuff

I liked this story verra verra much. The characters were well written with depth and a little messed up in the head, the stuff of good romance novels. Anxious moments, scarring events, an abhorrent villain, and emotional turmoil. Kaleo Griffith's narrative talents are excellent, his smooth sensual voice only adds to the impact of the story. If I have one complaint, it is on the part of the writer for the overuse of the word bonney as a descriptive. Overall, definitely worth a credit, and will probably give this one (the whole series) a second listen.

Best author and narrator ever!

This is absolutely the best writing ever. Kaleo has become my favorite narrator. Love the history of the events and the fictional portrayal of the romance. Read it! Worth the credits! Clare writes very well

Not much to criticize!

I’ve got to admit that this novel knocked me off my feet. I never would have guessed that a Romance package listing would not only be good, but outstanding. This novel kept my interest as completely as Outlander. The plot is solid, the characters are varied and intriguing, there is romance and sensuality, joy and heartbreak and Awesome narration. This narrator’s only shortcoming is his performance of female voices. He does a better job than I ever could but, his female voices are hoarse and lack femininity. They should have given him a female narrator to help him out.
If Scottish historical romance is your thing, add this to your library, you will not be disappointed!

Surrender to a Beautiful Story of Courage and Love

This book has it all....Indians, Scottish Highlanders, Royalty, and Romance. (This story is packed with history based around the Albany area of New York State.) It is a beautiful book that is filled with sacrifice, courage, compassion, bravery, desire, love and romance.

Within the first couple of chapters I was drawn into the story of Iain and Annie. The heartbreak and conflicts that both had to endure was deplorable and I knew immediately I had to find out if they overcome their struggles. Of course, there was lots of "smoldering fire" between them which also helped to keep me listening!

The narrator did an excellent job. He had many accents (English, French, Scottish, Native American) to deal with.....not to mention the male/female voices. He made it easy to distinguish the different voices.......which I appreciate.

Cant wait for another book in this series.
