A hand-picked cadre of warriors, they had the fierce courage of their Scots forefathers, combined with the stealth and cunning of the Indians who lived beside them in the wilderness. Battling the French in a no-holds-barred combat, they forged a new brand of honor, became a new breed of men - MacKinnon's Rangers.
Iain MacKinnon had been forced to serve the British crown, but compassion urged him to save the lovely lass facing certain death at the hands of the Abenaki. He'd defied his orders, endangered his brothers, his men and his mission, all for a woman. But when he held Annie's sweet body in his arms, he could feel no regret. Though he sensed she was hiding something from him, it was too late to hold back his heart.
In love and war, there are times when the only course of action is...surrender.

HOPEFUL ROMANTIC. I Enjoy Historical & Inspirational Romances With Great Narration. Oh, And I give Honest Reviews with No Spoilers. ;-)
This book has it all....Indians, Scottish Highlanders, Royalty, and Romance. (This story is packed with history based around the Albany area of New York State.) It is a beautiful book that is filled with sacrifice, courage, compassion, bravery, desire, love and romance.
Within the first couple of chapters I was drawn into the story of Iain and Annie. The heartbreak and conflicts that both had to endure was deplorable and I knew immediately I had to find out if they overcome their struggles. Of course, there was lots of "smoldering fire" between them which also helped to keep me listening!
The narrator did an excellent job. He had many accents (English, French, Scottish, Native American) to deal with.....not to mention the male/female voices. He made it easy to distinguish the different voices.......which I appreciate.
Cant wait for another book in this series.
This was a great book! Both the story and the narration were well done. I have already purchased the other titles in this series, and look forward to 'reading' them also.
Started a little slow but as the
characters developed got much better. The beginning was a bit too cliche..., she's small and helpless and he's a big strong warrior but once the writer got past that and developed the characters personalities it got much better. I look forward to the next book.
I will admit that I cannot give a full review of this book because I only listened to about an hour of it. That was about 59 more minutes than I wanted to, but I TRIED to give it a chance. I am a big fan of the Outlander series written by Diana Gabaldon! I THOUGHT based on the reviews I read that this book would be similar. It was not!!!!! I don't know what I disliked more, the writing or the guy reading the story. He sounds like the biggest pansy! I don't usually write reviews but I'm so mad that I wasted a credit on this book.
This book was wonderful! Already purchased book 2! Kaleo's narration is perfection. Felt like I was living in the story!
I wasn't expecting scots fighting in the French Indian war in colonial America but it was well done. The narrator did a great job delivering the emotion and eight amount of angst in this book.
Wonder series, read so perfect fully! I can't wait for next edition.
The characters are so well defined as is the color in the story. Feels loud you are in the story!
Wonderful story placed in an interesting period of American history! Performed very well by Kaleo Griffith. I'm a big fan of Pamela Clare's works but had my doubts about this historical series. She pulled me into the story at the very beginning. Who knew that the military branch known as the Rangers actually had it's beginnings in the mid 1700's. Absolutely loved the whole series and hated to see it end!
I liked this story verra verra much. The characters were well written with depth and a little messed up in the head, the stuff of good romance novels. Anxious moments, scarring events, an abhorrent villain, and emotional turmoil. Kaleo Griffith's narrative talents are excellent, his smooth sensual voice only adds to the impact of the story. If I have one complaint, it is on the part of the writer for the overuse of the word bonney as a descriptive. Overall, definitely worth a credit, and will probably give this one (the whole series) a second listen.
reviews for fun
If you like historical romantic novels you can not go wrong with Mackinnon's Rangers. Great story based around early American history, great narrator. I am now on book 2.
