Editorial reviews

Narrated with sensual slyness by Vanessa Chambers, Justice: New Species, Book 4 is the continued tale a genetically modified man who becomes leader of a new species; half human, half animal. A side-effect to this modification is that the man is now also the hottest hunk in the world. This man is Justice. And our protagonist, Jessie Dupree, can’t wait to get her hands all over him.

A steamy and erotic story that should be listen to for the sexy details, rather than perhaps the plot.

Publisher's summary

Justice North is the face of New Species. Seeing him up close makes Jessie’s heart race. He’s the ultimate alpha male - big, muscular, exotically beautiful… and dangerous. Of course he’s off limits. But then the sexy man purrs and all bets are off. Jessie Dupree is a mouthy, fiery human female who brings out the animal in Justice. She wants to show him how to relax, and he’s all for anything she wants to do, but Justice has sworn to protect his people and to take a Species mate.

He’s torn between the woman he wants and the oath he’s taken. Jessie knows a relationship between them probably won’t end well; heartbreak is inevitable. But that won’t stop her from freeing the wildness inside Justice and spending every moment she can steal wrapped around his hot body, making him roar with passion.

5 Justice Stars

Continuing this series I forget how much I love it. Justice is a character who I never really put much thought into if I am being honest. So when this was book 4 I was like Meh but it’s so good.

You don’t think his job would be as hard as it is, he never shows how much work it is to his people. But Jessie when she comes into his life she sees what others don’t see. She sees that he can’t be himself. He has to be the face of New Species.

Justice doesn't take time for himself; he works almost 24/7 because the cause is so important. It’s for his people but there has to be balance and Jessie kid of knocks him on his butt. She stirs up emotions in him and he fears for her the more his feelings grow for her.

She is fierce and protective, and so is Justice they just click.
Fabulous audio can’t wait to continue the series.

Justice ~ Favorite Character and Story!

Justice was, is, and will always be my favorite character in this series, and I absolutely loved his story! It was a refreshing plot change from having a lead female character who always needed to be saved to a Jessie, a tough kickass female who was a perfect fit for Justice. (Dang, is it wrong to be jealous of a character in a story?)

Justice is the face of New Species, he looks out for his people, he's caring and can be dominate. I loved the scene at the party, when Jessie is trying to leave because she is tired of hiding their relationship from everyone. Justice, in a show of dominance, calls out to her over the music and crowd and demands she come and stand right in front of him. Jessie does not want to make a bigger scene timidly walks up to Justice and stands right in the spot he is pointing at. Then while she is standing there and everyone watching, he announces to everyone she is his mate. :-) Did I say he was my favorite character?

This series is in my top 5 favorite PNR's..............*sigh*

Wish I Could Just Read This Series

However, Dohner’s world building is strong so it’s easy to connect with her characters. I love this series but... I read the ebooks for the first three books in this series. Since I cannot read right now but want to finish the series, I’m listening to the audio version but I’m definitely not loving the narrator’s take on male voices.

The New Species Leader!

The following ratings are out of 5:
Romance: ❤️💙💜💚
Steam: 🔥🔥🔥
Story/Plot: 📕📗📘
World building: 🌏🌍🌏🌎
Character development: 😠☺️😋😍
Narration: 🎙🎙🎙
Narration Type: Solo Narration

The heroine: Jessie - she had seen Justice North on television but thinks he is even more handsome in person. He gave orders to her bosses at the task force and held the power to change some of the task force policies that she didn’t agree with. She thought the issues were important, but she wasn’t allowed to attend the meetings with Justice.

The Hero: Justice - He is the leader of the New Species who are now citizens of the United States since they were created with tax dollars and born on US soil. The New Species now have two large plots of land which they own. One was called Homeland and the other was called Reservation.

The Story: When a recently released New Species male attacked Jessie, Justice North stepped in and rescued her. He took charge and swore to make sure his people knew how to act in the future. Justice invited Jessie to dinner so they could talk. Her attraction to him grew the more they got to know each other and his to her. Though Justice had planned to mate with another Species and not to a human, he knew he couldn’t have her.

There were some parts of this book that I didn’t like. First of all was her boss Ted who kept saying that he thinks of her as a daughter and would spank her if she didn’t stay back away from the danger. Then after she showed that she was up to the task and killed three men that were after her team and rescued the New Species woman they were after, but she got shot by a sniper as they were getting away. Her father, who was a senator, fired her from the job. She looked weak when she just accepted it even though a different job was offered to her.

This book is told in multiple points of view via solo narration and was narrated by Vanessa Chambers. I liked her narration of the first three books when I listened to them a while back. I have to admit some of the scenes with the two main characters were pretty stilted. I don’t know if it was the story or the narration. I just finished listening to most of the VLG series by the same author and I really enjoyed the narrator on that series, Savannah Richards. Vanessa is good, but not quite as good as Savannah.

Much better … except for the spanking joke

This installment had much better romance, plot, and action. Both Justice and Jesse have brains. Also, both have brains and brawn, come to think of it, since Jesse begins the story as a soldier and ends it fighting along side the New Species. This story benefits from having more of the New Species clan around for more of the story, as opposed to the previous books where the couple end up alone together for what felt like most of the book.

There’s still some author quirks that bug me, like the tendency to have characters drop huge info dumps on random topics or at weird times, using dialog that had me thinking who talks like that? There’s also this weird running gag where Jesse’s military supervisor kept joking about how he, a grownass man, wanted to put her, a grownass woman, over his knee … but it’s okay because he thinks of her as his daughter. What the what? Dude, even if she was your daughter, she’s an adult, a soldier, and, hello, you just said that to her real dad, a senator!

This book is my favorite so far!

Would you consider the audio edition of Justice: New Species, Book 4 to be better than the print version?

I haven't read the print version.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Justice: New Species, Book 4?

The second love scene, all of Justice's jealous scenes like when Jessie cooks the movers dinner, the bar/club scene, and the party scene.

Have you listened to any of Vanessa Chambers’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Yes, she gets better each book. I've listened to other works by her and she sounds better. Perhaps that is because she was a more seasoned narrator when she did the other books I've read by her.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

YES!!!

Any additional comments?

I haven't read the entire series, but this was my favorite book in the series thus far! Maybe because it reminds me of my husband and I's relationship when we first met. I could relate to Justice's constant battles with the logical side of himself, perhaps because I'm in the legal profession. Justice's intelligence, and forethought was spot on, and he perfectly resembled a good public figure/ hard working politician. I was able to connect with the constant mental battles both Justice and Jessie went through before they realized they had to cast their logic aside and be brave enough to force people to accept their relationship, and embrace their love for each other.

I was able to connect with fiery and feisty Jessie as well because her personality is similar to mine. I noticed that a lot of other reviewers said they didn't like how Justice demanded secrecy from Jessie, but it didn't bother me. The reasons behind all the secrecy were "justified" (pun intended-lol) in my opinion; and I completely understood it. To me, the encounters between Jessie and Justice were all the more heated and dramatic since they had to be secretive, and had limited time together. In the grand scheme of things, Justice and Jessie's relationship wasn't secret for long. It was a secret for just about a month from what I read. I was honestly surprised it took other characters in the book so long to figure out what was going on. Especially after the bar/ club scene. Justice and Jessie's relationship was realistic to me, because in the real world, many people have secret loves that they can't be public about for various reasons.

I loved how Justice was able to completely relax around Jessie, and how Jessie forced him to tear down his carefully erected walls when he was with her to be his true self. At times, Jessie was not understanding of the secrecy, and to me, that was a natural response from someone who didn't have all the facts. The reason she was so pushy and didn't completely understand the secrecy and the weight of Justice's role with New Species was because she didn't have the "top secret" insight into new species like Justice and a few other New Species characters had. Seeing how Justice was caught between a love for his people, the weight of his position, and his love for Jessie was an interesting dynamic of the book. Watching such a smart, logical, controlled person be confused, trapped, and unhinged until his own loving people force him to face his feelings for Jessie; made for a good ending to this book.

For me, this story is the reason I will continue reading this series (before this, I was contemplating moving on to another series I wanted to read). I absolutely adored the couple and the romance in this book, and hated when the book came to an end. As I said, it may be because I could personally relate to this story since my family are engaged in politics, but I haven't read anything that drew me in the way this book did in awhile. That is why I felt compelled to write this review. Initially, I was drawn to this series because I like paranormal romance books, and the series is long enough to keep me entertained for awhile. The first two books were meh, but interesting enough that I kept reading. The third book was much better (cute and entertaining enough that I downloaded this book with hopes that I would see more improvement in the story line). Now, I'm so glad that I did, else I wouldn't have found this gem. I read and listen to a lot of books, and I already downloaded the next book in this series. I'm excited about reading the next book, and re-reading/ listening to this book (it was totally worth a credit for me)!

Justice and Jessica

Gosh! Justice infuriated me, but he has always did that especially in previous book. Justice character was well developed and I understand his prospective although he irritated me. I felt Jessica 's pain with his hypocritical logic.
I like how this series utilizes another method of pain...emotional pain. The other 3 books portrayed human physical and psychological pain with the erotic romance. This was well written 👏

Best one yet

This story made me cry when Justice thought he was doing the right thing by breaking it off with Jessie. It also had humor too. I loved how Breeze manipulated Justice by making him jealous enough, he claimed Jessie. So funny.
