Publisher's summary

New York Times bestselling author Susan Mallery's classic blend of lighthearted humor and intense emotional conflict works its magic on two newcomers to the California town of Fool's Gold, which Library Journal calls "a setting so real and appealing readers will want to start scoping out real estate."

Destiny Mills believes passion has its place - like in the lyrics of the country songs that made her parents famous. After a childhood full of drama and heartache, she wants a life that's calm. Safe. Everything that Kipling Gilmore isn't. Her temporary assignment with the Fool's Gold search and rescue team puts her in delicious proximity to the former world-class skier every day. Part of her aches to let go for once...the rest is terrified what'll happen if she does.

Though an accident ended his career, Kipling still lives for thrills - and a hot fling with a gorgeous redhead like Destiny would be a welcome diversion. Yet beneath his new coworker's cool facade is a woman who needs more than he's ever given. With her, he's ready to take the risk. But love, like skiing, is all about trust - and before you soar, you have to be willing to fall.

The female lead was so irritating!!!!

I generally love the Fools Gold books but this one will make you crazy. There isn't a .nice way to put this. She was just stupid. There's nothing wrong with being a virgin but to be a college grad and be completely ignorant toward sex was dumb. No one these days can go through college, and on to the age of 28 and not know what an orgasm is or that you can get pregnant on your first encounter. That just insulted my intelligence. Skip this one. There are many there in this series that are good. Just not this one

If the review was on how much I liked the story,..

The author does a better than fair job of using language. She has issues with the he/him format ("as him". Really, Madam Author?) and a few other grammar issues. Her characters are fleshed out quite well and she can write a scene that I can see. But the characters are mid-twenties going on 14 -- manipulative - given or gotten, whiny, passive-aggressive -- in otherwise adult roles... probably the only actual adult among them is Mayor Marge (?) and she is the all-knowing mother figure. On the merits of the author's ability as a writer, the three stars stand, or maybe more. She has a copy editor/copy readers of some worth, and it is a joy to find few if any errors of spelling or word usage.

If the rating was on how disappointed I am with where a promising story line went, it would be sitting at barely one star. The author is quite good, and I keep getting sucked in thinking THIS will be the one where her characters shine as people I'd like to know. This one isn't it, either.

The narrator does a fine job; I occasionally have a hard time pulling out which male is talking, but it is a crowd scene of all males; it would be hard for anyone.

YMMV; I am not knocking anyone's taste; this is just not mine.

Sooo Disappointed

I love all the Fools Gold novels unfortunately this wasn't a fools gold novel it was a story that just happen to take place in fools gold. All the characters I've enjoyed it previous books where petty and in case of the males wimps and even jerks.
I like the concept of the fools gold books and hope the next will go back to a god romance story set in a good if somewhat strangely "NICE" town.

just awful

I enjoyed the first ones in this series but this was disappointingly bad. Repetitive, unrealistic, predictable, dull characters, and it lacked the endearing qualities of other Fool's Gold titles.

Ohhh denial!

Standard fare. He swears softly, and fills her fully. Fools Gold, where all men are well endowed. And all women have earth shattering orgasms. And, women are whiny twits. Denial, extra feelings, and makeup sex. The same damn storyline, with slight variations. Two dimensional people, with pathetic yo-yo relationship skills. Its wild sex, and could it be love? Ohhhh my heart. I cant risk my heart. Blah blah blah. They get married and ride off into the sunset.

Love returning to Fool's Gold

Destiny Mills comes to town with her work, she's there to help set up the towns new search and rescue team. She's jaded about love due to her famous parents relationship and her own inexperience. She now find herself alone in a new town and raising a half sister who has issues of her own. Kipling Gilmore having been brought to town to work on the S&R team after a tragic accident ends his skiing career has no interest in long term relationships. He's only looking for a good time with the beautiful redhead he's working with, These two Fool's Gold newbies have no idea what's in store for them. Can they work through their issues and make a go of things or will they go their separate ways and never know what could have been, this is a sweet story of two unsuspecting people coming together to bring out the best in each other.
