Publisher's summary

Eric Murray, the youngest of his brothers, is determined to gain his rightful inheritance after 13 years of bitter dispute with his father's family. Starting out alone to confront his tight-fisted kinsmen, he encounters a chestnut-haired beauty set upon by thieves. When she begs for Eric's protection for herself and her infant nephew, Eric promises to deliver them to the safety of her family.

Bethia Drummond has tried desperately to ignore her attraction to the azure-eyed stranger. Still, Eric Murray is Bethia's only hope of escaping her ruthless kin, who plan to kill her and her orphaned nephew and claim their inherited land. Then Bethia learns that Eric, too, is seeking land and coin from his own kin - her family's closest allies. How could she love a man she might one day be forced to stand against? And yet she cannot ignore what her troubled heart knows - that this proud knight is her very destiny.

I PROMISE IT'S A GREAT HIGHLAND ROMANCE

As with all the Murray books - they are filled with... yes, I'll say it again, HHH (Handsome Highland Hunks) and this one has the most handsome but he is so much more than a pretty face - he's loyal, brave, and true.

This one seemed to pack so much into it - lasses to be won, battles to plan, the King to see, old enemies to kill, find out who your true kin is, a birthright to claim back, a bride to woo bed and wed etc etc etc that you can't help but be impressed at HH's writing abilities as she entwines the plot with lots of sub plots effortlessly.

Worth a credit? Yes and I've happily spent the credits and downloaded all he Highland books.

excellent series!!!

I really liked this series & hated to see it end. The narrator was good I'm really glad the same one was used for the entire series. It made it easy to slip back into the story. I hope to listen to more highland romances from Hannah.

Keeps up it's promise!

This is a good one! I love that Eric sees to the heart of Bethia and helps her to see the truth as well. They both help each other along and this becomes a great love story (of course) They are young and you can tell from their issues, and their emotions, but they are a fiery pair!

Worth the credit. I'm not sure if I will continue the series or not, I see good things about the future books and I understand the series (18 books long) spans 4 generations but it looks like the Murrays will be seen in some ways in a negative light, which I hate to see the people I put onto a pedestal that way, but I will probably give in and find I love them.

VERY disappointed - and so many good reviews!

What would have made Highland Promise better?

Where do I start? The narration might not have been so bad if the story had been better.

What was most disappointing about Hannah Howell’s story?

The heroine! How many times can she think it's "safe" to go out unprotected, and every time she's attacked? Not very quick witted. The sex was rather ho-hum as well.

How could the performance have been better?

Unable to distinguish her "male" voices from certain female characters. Male voices too gravelly.

What character would you cut from Highland Promise?

The heroine. She's a dim-witted dud.

Any additional comments?

The story is also the weary conundrum of a couple unwilling to each be the one to admit to being in love first - so they both "hold back" certain truths.

Great book.

Angela Dawe once again did an amazing job narrating. This truly was a wonderful book, I do have one complaint. I thought the heroine's beliefs were rediculous and at times I wanted to shake her, OR slap her. I gave this book 5 stars because it deserved it even though I didn't much care for the h. This is the only book I've read in this series where the h could be a complete idiot. Most of Howells heroine's are stronger of mind than the h in this book. I still recommend reading it because it really was a great book.

Good Scottish romance

This was better than the first two. I enjoyed this book and I guess that's what is needed sometime.

A Bonnie Story

As usual, Hannah Howell has come up with a delightful story set in the Scottish Highlands. Eric Murray is now a man grown into a knight, a handsome man and is finally seeking the inheritance he is born to. Along the way he runs into a bonnie lass, Bethia, who needs his help desperately. Someone is trying to murder her and her nephew, and she cannot turn to her parents for help for they have no familial feelings for her or their grandchild, and she is naive about other villages having never visited anywhere before, about men other than those few who were part of her father’s warriors while she was growing up and the world in general. She is defenseless. For Eric it is love at first sight although he doesn’t really know what that is about. He just knows he wants to be with her. For Bethia, Eric is the answer to her prayers. He is a warrior who can protect her and allow her to return home with her nephew. Their story with all its twists starts from there … and it is captivating. Angela Dawe does an excellent job with the narration this time. It is a most difficult read because of all the accents: Scottish, French, and English and she does a fine job.
