Publisher's summary

They call him the Devil....

He is the most notorious laird of Scotland: fierce, cold, deadly...and maybe even worse. Yet Evelinde has just agreed to wed him. Anything, she thinks, is better than her cruel stepmother. Though Evelinde should be wary of the rumors, she can't help but be drawn to this warrior...for the Devil of the Highlands inspires a heat within her that is unlike anything she has ever known.

They may call him whatever they wish, but Cullen, Laird of Donnachaidh, cares only for the future of his clan. He must find a wife, a woman to bear him sons and heed his commands. He has no need for beauty or grace, but one taste of his lovely bride's sweet lips and the sultry feel of her skin arouse an untamed passion. Perhaps there's more to marriage than he thought.

great story, bad reader

I loved the story, but the reader was so monotone that it drove me nuts!

Adventurous Romance

I thoroughly enjoyed this robust adventure and exciting romance; thought the narrator did a wonderful job with the accents. I will purchase more books from this author and narrator,

A little too much like "The Bride"

I listened to "Devil of the Highlands" a few weeks after listening to "The Bride" by Judy Garwood. There are so many similarities that I found myself making a list. A young English woman marries a Highland laird (in one story to escape a "wicked stepmother" and in one story by edit of the king). The young brides fumble their way through their new roles. In both stories their is a subplot, the Lairds' previous wives dying under mysterious circumstances. Too much to be a coincidence. Did anyone else notice this?

Another Good Story by Lynsay Sands

Sure, this story follows the typical narrative of these types of romance novels: heroine meets hero; some mystery to solve; love discovered yet unsure if the other knows it; mystery solved and love revealed. It was humorous. However, not as humorous as Lynsay’s Highland Bride Series.

I am very glad I did not base my decision to purchase the book on the reviews regarding the narrator, Marianna Palka. There were a few minor inconsistencies with character voices, however, they were not enough to detract from the story or make me want to stop listening. I thoroughly enjoyed her narration. And if one listens closely enough, one can hear when Ms Palka is working to laugh during a couple of the lines. For me, this made the story all the more enjoyable. I definitely love the Scottish accent!

I truly enjoyed the story and narration. I am looking forward to listening to the next book in this series!

Worth it

I was hesitant to listen to this book because of the other reviews about the narrator. But eventually circled back to it and gave it a chance! Though I fully agree that the narrator’s voice is monotone, the overall story is really good. So if you can tolerate her voice, go for it! I’d recommend listening to the sample before purchasing. 💕

What about Marianna Palka’s performance did you like?

I liked the accent and her ability to change voices with characters.

Great book

The book is wonderful however it's hard to hear the narrator most of the time. Her voice is very soft.

Narrator is terrible

I have listened to several of Lynsay Sands books and just love the stories. This was a good story, but the narration was not so good and it was hard for me to finish.
