Publisher's summary

From #1 New York Times bestselling author Nora Roberts comes a trilogy about the land we’re drawn to, the family we learn to cherish, and the people we long to love...

Book One of The Cousins O’Dwyer Trilogy

Dark Witch

With indifferent parents, Iona Sheehan grew up craving devotion and acceptance. From her maternal grandmother, she learned where to find both: a land of lush forests, dazzling lakes, and centuries-old legends.

Ireland. County Mayo, to be exact. Where her ancestors’ blood and magic have flowed through generations - and where her destiny awaits.

Iona arrives in Ireland with nothing but her Nan’s directions, an unfailingly optimistic attitude, and an innate talent with horses. Not far from the luxurious castle where she is spending a week, she finds her cousins, Branna and Connor O’Dwyer. And since family is family, they invite her into their home and their lives. When Iona lands a job at the local stables, she meets the owner, Boyle McGrath. Cowboy, pirate, wild tribal horsemen, he’s three of her biggest fantasy weaknesses all in one big, bold package.

Iona realizes that here she can make a home for herself - and live her life as she wants, even if that means falling head over heels for Boyle. But nothing is as it seems. An ancient evil has wound its way around Iona’s family tree and must be defeated. Family and friends will fight with each other and for each other to keep the promise of hope - and love - alive...

Wow!!!!

First of all, I love the book but narrator can be too much at times. That’s when I tune her out. She likes to overdo her self...a lot. Patricia Daniels who narrated the Irish Jewels trilogy does a better job, therefore, I was able to enjoy listening to that series more. I don’t know if I will continue this book. I’ll probably have to rest my ears from this narrator for awhile before I decide to go on to the next book.

Good story, but a terrible narration

I almost stopped listening to this story due to the horrible narration by Ms. Kellgtren. Her Irish accent was so horrendous that she made all of the female Irish characters sound like Maggie Smith as Professor McGonegall, meaning they all sounded like world weary 70 year old matriarchs. I had a hard time picturing the characters as 20 year olds. The men's were almost as bad. The American character, on the other hand, sounded like Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz.

The saving grace was that the story was good. I am looking forward to the sequels, but hope that another, more talented narrator is used.

Not her best work

Would you try another book from Nora Roberts and/or Katherine Kellgren?

I am a huge Nora Roberts fan; however, this book wasn't her best work. I didn't enjoy Katherine Kellgren's reading style or accents.

Would you recommend Dark Witch to your friends? Why or why not?

No

How did the narrator detract from the book?

Her accents were not good and she was too dramatic in parts which didn't need that level of emotion.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

No

Dark Witch

A story of witchcraft mixed with immutable love stories. Not find if witchcraft stories, but this one didn't weird me out.

She had me from the synposis!

I loved this book and am looking forward to the next two. Yes, it is predictable, very much like the Three Sisters Trilogy. But I like predictable in our constantly changing world. It took me a while to get used to the reader, and another reader with more variation would probably make it better.

But it has what I love, rediscovery of magic, horses, and a little formula romance on the side. And horses, did I mention horses? And magic. For me - a great read - er listen.
