Publisher's summary

From #1 New York Times bestselling author Nora Roberts comes a trilogy about the land we’re drawn to, the family we learn to cherish, and the people we long to love...

Book One of The Cousins O’Dwyer Trilogy

Dark Witch

With indifferent parents, Iona Sheehan grew up craving devotion and acceptance. From her maternal grandmother, she learned where to find both: a land of lush forests, dazzling lakes, and centuries-old legends.

Ireland. County Mayo, to be exact. Where her ancestors’ blood and magic have flowed through generations - and where her destiny awaits.

Iona arrives in Ireland with nothing but her Nan’s directions, an unfailingly optimistic attitude, and an innate talent with horses. Not far from the luxurious castle where she is spending a week, she finds her cousins, Branna and Connor O’Dwyer. And since family is family, they invite her into their home and their lives. When Iona lands a job at the local stables, she meets the owner, Boyle McGrath. Cowboy, pirate, wild tribal horsemen, he’s three of her biggest fantasy weaknesses all in one big, bold package.

Iona realizes that here she can make a home for herself - and live her life as she wants, even if that means falling head over heels for Boyle. But nothing is as it seems. An ancient evil has wound its way around Iona’s family tree and must be defeated. Family and friends will fight with each other and for each other to keep the promise of hope - and love - alive...

Loved everything about this book!

Great plot, great narration, I was sucked in and am so bummed the other two installments of the trilogy aren't released yet! I'll be pre-ordering these ones for sure, and waiting with bated breath!

poor narration

Is there anything you would change about this book?

Liked the story but the narrator is overly dramatic which makes it difficult to enjoy the audiobook. Would be better to read this one.

Terrible Narration!

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

I would not recommend this in the audio version. Buy the print version. Definitely do not waste a credit on this. I saw the reviews and thought "How bad can it be?" and ordered the book anyway. Well it is really that bad. She screams throughout the story and makes most of the characters sound old and haggard.

What other book might you compare Dark Witch to and why?

This book reminds me of Nora's Donovan Legacy series: Captivated, Entranced, Charmed, and Enchanted.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

She made the characters sound like old haggard crones. And during any of the scenes with chanting or spells the narrarator screeched and cackled it was awful. I really hope the next book isn't narrated by this person. I won't buy it if it is.

Was Dark Witch worth the listening time?

It would have been with a different narrator.

Any additional comments?

repetitive after a while

Nora Roberts is absolutely one of my favorite authors. I especially love her Eve Dallas series. This book started off really strong and I was really loving it and then suddenly many of the words and phrases became incredibly repetitive. The narrator however give a performance that is worthy of 11 stars out of 10.

Overall the book was still very enjoyable I just didn't feel it was up to Ms. Roberts normal standard

Wonderful story

What did you love best about Dark Witch?

They the way that family was the link and heart of this story.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Finn, he was so gruff, it took the love of a woman who ask nothing from him, and finally understanding that love was not chains but wings that would set a mans heart to give.once he accepted that, he was made whole.

Which scene was your favorite?

The epilogue.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Just pour enjoyment

Any additional comments?

The young lady that did the narration was excellent!

Good book

Loved the storyline. The only problem with it, where the voices. Because the characters are female sometimes it was hard to discern who was who.

Absolutely Fabulous

The narrator of this book brought it totally to life. I felt that I was watching a movie in my mind as I listened to the performance. For that was what it was.

Needs sound editing.

What did you love best about Dark Witch?

I am a huge Roberts fan and while this is not my fave, I loved the new characters. Was ready for another tale set in Ireland.

What didn’t you like about Katherine Kellgren’s performance?

Out of control volume! Had a headache by end of first half. Her exuberance really did nothing to help the narration. Tension does not necessarily mean load and the same goes for excitement. More attention to sound editing would have probably helped.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Wanted to as far as the story, but couldn't listen to it for that long. Second half was a little easier than the first.

Any additional comments?

Looking forward to next installment. Maybe narrator can do some listening to other highly rated books to improve.

As always, Nora Roberts did it again. couldn't stop listening. I listen mostly while driving and caught myself taking the longest route and even past my destination to continue listening.
