Publisher's summary

From #1 New York Times bestselling author Nora Roberts comes a trilogy about the land we’re drawn to, the family we learn to cherish, and the people we long to love...

Book One of The Cousins O’Dwyer Trilogy

Dark Witch

With indifferent parents, Iona Sheehan grew up craving devotion and acceptance. From her maternal grandmother, she learned where to find both: a land of lush forests, dazzling lakes, and centuries-old legends.

Ireland. County Mayo, to be exact. Where her ancestors’ blood and magic have flowed through generations - and where her destiny awaits.

Iona arrives in Ireland with nothing but her Nan’s directions, an unfailingly optimistic attitude, and an innate talent with horses. Not far from the luxurious castle where she is spending a week, she finds her cousins, Branna and Connor O’Dwyer. And since family is family, they invite her into their home and their lives. When Iona lands a job at the local stables, she meets the owner, Boyle McGrath. Cowboy, pirate, wild tribal horsemen, he’s three of her biggest fantasy weaknesses all in one big, bold package.

Iona realizes that here she can make a home for herself - and live her life as she wants, even if that means falling head over heels for Boyle. But nothing is as it seems. An ancient evil has wound its way around Iona’s family tree and must be defeated. Family and friends will fight with each other and for each other to keep the promise of hope - and love - alive...

Part one of awesome trilogy

I love the characters in this trilogy. The Cousins O’Dwyer story is my favorite Nora Roberts trilogy, because of the great characters (that includes the horses, hounds, and hawks).

Narrator Katherine Kellgren enchants me with her voices of the children in chapters one and two.

Love this story.

Sorca-meara

Reader sounds like a 90 year old when she does Meara. I pictured her at late 20 max.

Sorca is pronounced Sorsha

Magical!

Loved the story. But I felt like I was listening to a Broadway audition. Way to theatrical for me. I'm not sure if I will listen to the next two books if they are read by Katherine Kellgren

A good start to a wonderful trilogoy.

I waited until I read all 3 books before doing a review. I really enjoyed these works and the way they melded the old with the new, both in terms of story and magic. Nothing way over the top or unbelievable, just the ways of nature and the power of the elements. There were times when the voices of the different women seemed to be almost the same voice. The one who came from America, her accent seemed to vary from time to time, like they couldn't decide what her accent should be. Women seem to be able to do male voices better than men do females.
I know that there is a limited budget for doing these books, but when you have this many characters, there should be at least one male and one female doing the readings.
The story is delightful and kept me enthralled the whole time. The struggles of power and seduction, of pride and redemption, of trust lost and misunderstanding, of what we think good and evil are is masterfully told by Nora Roberts. I've not always been a big fan of hers. It was the subject matter that made me try the first book. It was her skillful telling of the tale that made me finish the trilogy.
