Publisher's summary

An alluring laird....

He was known throughout the kingdom as Hawk, legendary predator of the battlefield and the boudoir. No woman could refuse his touch, but no woman ever stirred his heart - until a vengeful fairy tumbled Adrienne de Simone out of modern-day Seattle and into medieval Scotland.

Captive in a century not her own, entirely too bold, too outspoken, she was an irresistible challenge to the 16th-century rogue. Coerced into a marriage with Hawk, Adrienne vowed to keep him at arm's length - but his sweet seduction played havoc with her resolve.

A prisoner in time....

She had a perfect "no" on her perfect lips for the notorious laird, but Hawk swore she would whisper his name with desire, begging for the passion he longed to ignite within her. Not even the barriers of time and space would keep him from winning her love. Despite her uncertainty about following the promptings of her own passionate heart, Adrienne's reservations were no match for Hawk's determination to keep her by his side.

Great Scot! Don't miss our other titles in the Highlander series.

Critic reviews

"Phil Gigante's handling of the prose in Moning's clever paranormal romance is smooth and engaging, but it is his character voicings that truly make this recording one to remember." (AudioFile)

Amazing book read by an amazing storyteller!

Loved, loved, loved the book! Amazing story that me had me laughing and longing for a highlander myself! There couldn't have been a better storyteller than Phil Gigante! His many accents (especially his brogue) sure made the book better!

This book me a me a Moning fan!

After listening to this book I fell in love with the series and devoured each one! I'm a big fan of historical fiction and especially anything dealing with the Irish or Scots.

Her plots are predictable, but honestly, I listen to this fluff because it is far from reality and it's entertaining. It never left me bored, that's for sure! And it made me want to know more about the characters and find out what would happen to them next.

Phil Gigante is an awesome reader! He has an amazing Scottish lilt - honestly I think his voice could melt butter LOL

Live Karen Marie Moning

I love this type of book and I enjoyed listing to it on Audible. This was the first time I have used Audible to listen to a book. I'm looking forward to the next book in the series. The narrator did a great job on the Scottish Burr and the reading was enjoyable.

It has been 21 years ...

I first read Beyond the Highland Mist back in 2000 , when one still drove to Barnes & Nobles to get the paperback.

Fast forward 2021; Audible have 2 for 1 sale and to my surprise this one was on sale. I grabbed it and immediately began listening.

Enjoyed Hawk and Adrienne tale then and enjoyed it now!

Phil Gigante narration was on point. He transported me to the highlands of Scotland.

Everything is "perfect"

The story was good & I would have given it 4 stars, however I became annoyed with how "perfect" was used to describe the features of the characters. Perfect lips, perfect face, perfect body, blah, blah. I also became frustrated with the heroine at times...but when Grimm confronted her about her actions he said just about everything I was thinking. I understand her hesitation, however it got old. The author did a good job of taking her through the process, but it felt like it took a long time to get there.

Re-reading Re-listening

I first bought the paperback version of this book I think way back in the year 2000. I think I was so glad when it came out on audio because by then, I had lost and repurchased the books so many times by the time I bought this audiobook so many years ago. I am really enjoying re-listening to this series. I loved this series way before I loved Outlander. In fact, I found Outlander while looking for something that would satisfy my craving for these hunky Scottish Highlanders. Anyway, it was so refreshing to listen to this story again, especially hearing Phil Gigante's beautiful narration of it again. I was happy when I looked through my library and found I had all the books of the series except one which I purchased with haste. And knowing me, I probably have it on another one of my audible accounts already. Anyway, sweet story. I'm off to read the next one.

Ok

So while the story wasn't so bad I have to say the narrator really ruined the story. He sound scotch at first but keep going back and forth with African American voice that ruined the story. In this time frame in Scotland a Scottish lord Douglas would not have married a black women. And back and forth French ?? Really it was so distracting his going all over the place with accents. And he fell out of the accents Inbetween talking in a different voice for their thoughts ? Just kept me off and hard to enjoy. If he is narrating another book I'll shy away from it unless it fits his voice better. Like a new Orleans story line.

A bit corny and cliche

Is there anything you would change about this book?

As soon as I started listening to this I immediately thought this is so corny, predictable and very cliche, however I did get caught up in the story and ended up enjoying it. It's not as sappy as I thought it would be. It's easy to listen to and the narration was good

Cute

It was a cute story and made me laugh. It wasn't the best story I've read and it certainly wasn't the worst. Definitely worth it for free since it is one of the books available with membership right now. Based on a few reviews I thought it was going to be pretty explicit, it really wasn't.
