Publisher's Summary

It’s steamy in the Gulf town of Sea Breeze. Physical attraction is the only way to beat the heat in this start to a series from best-selling, previously self-published author Abbi Glines.

Playboy Cage owns the apartment, and he hosts a revolving door of people, in and out, at all times. Most of them are long-legged hot girls who are never there more than a night or two. When Cage’s new roommate, Marcus, enters the picture, he’s just looking to nurse a broken heart. But there’s one particular semi-frequent regular who catches his eye.

Willow - 'Low' - is the one Cage wants to marry. But the two of them are night and day, and Marcus can’t see how Low puts up with all of Cage’s womanizing. What she really needs is a real man....like good-looking and sensible Marcus. But that’s going to get real complicated and real messy - real fast.

Use books for escape- typically avoid nonfiction. Enjoy action-romance, espionage/military, sci-fi. Skilled writing is most important.

    "Surprisingly good"

First, I hadn't heard of this author before; second, I do not typically like college-aged protagonists; but, I was surprised to find I liked both the author and the characters. I cannot say the author wrote a profound story, but the plot was fine, the writing competent, and the character development about right. I will try this author again.

    "2.5 Disappointing Insta Love Stars"

Because of Low (Sea Breeze #2) by Abbi Glines Reviewed by Cmsande

Overall Rating: 2.5 Disappointing Insta Love Stars Narrator Rating: 4 Stars

Heat Level: 1.5 very low heat stars. Recommend for 13+. There is some sex scenes in the book but very few. Little to no tension, flirting or sexy build-up.

Type of Book Genre: #Romance #New Adult #Contemporary Romance

POV: Dual POV done by the two main characters (H) Marcus Hardy and (h) Willow “Low” Fosters

I will start by saying that I enjoy reading books by Abbi Glines and some of my favorites are the Rosemary Beach series and the Existence Trilogy. However I did not like this book. I was excited to finally get time to read this book because I liked Markus in the first Sea Breeze book Breathe. The Idea for the story was great but the execution was lame. The conflicts were either childish, trite or just over the top. I hate to say this because I know authors work very hard and I appreciate all they give but this book felt thrown together on the fly.

Willows character comes off as childish, selfish and just plain dumb at times. She does absolutely nothing but complain and does nothing to fix her situations! And can I just say hoping that her sister will become a better mom if she doesn't have to work is the dumbest statement I've heard in a while! Low’s using Cage and leading him on was just sad (yes I know she told him repeatedly through the entire book that she wouldn't marry him but actions speak louder than words, so don't crawl in his bed every other night!) I really liked Markus in Breathe but he comes across as an asshole in this book. I absolutely loathe his reaction in the end! Very few redeeming qualities between our main characters, I feel cheated! The interactions between Marcus and Willow seem awkward and felt unnatural. Most of the time there inner monologue where boring, meaningless drivel! There was no real attraction between them or no sexual tension, just embarrassingly cringe worthy sex scenes! The ending was choppy with no real resolutions to the problems. One minute everyone’s mad and the next everything’s fine! Urmm what just happened?

I know my review is in the minority but I’m at a loss as to why. What am I not seeing or am I reading the wrong book? I don't have the answers so all I can tell you is if you liked the first one and plan to continue the series then you might as well waste a day of your life and read this book. If you don't have a day or two to waste then skip it. I only hope the rest of the series isn't this terrible.

Narrator: The Narrator's did a great job, it’s not their fault I didn't like the story!

Original Book Blurb From GoodReads: Kindle Edition 294 pages, Published February 7th 2012

In my debut novel, Breathe, Sadie may have fallen in love with the teen rock star, Jax Stone, but readers fell head over heels for Marcus Hardy. This is his story…

Marcus Hardy had hoped to enjoy a year away at college while he put the summer he’d rather forget behind him. But instead, he’s jerked right back to the coastal town of Sea Breeze, Alabama due to a family crisis. His dear ol' dad found himself a girlfriend only a few years older than Marcus. So now his sister needs help dealing with their mother who is mentally falling apart. The only bright spot to returning is the fascinating red head who sleeps over several times a week. The problem is she's sleeping in bed with his new roommate, Cage York.

Willow “Low” Foster needs a place to live. Running to Cage’s apartment every time her sister kicks her out isn’t exactly a long term solution. Juggling her courses at the local community college and a part time job doesn’t produce excess income. But Cage has a new roommate and suddenly sleeping over at her best friend’s apartment isn’t such a bad thing. Not when she gets to see those sexy green eyes of Marcus Hardy’s twinkle when he smiles at her like he wants her there.
Even though Cage seems a little territorial where Low is concerned, Marcus finds time to spend with Low without upsetting his roommate. Cage may use his small college baseball star persona to sleep with every hot female in his path but he’s still under the disillusion that when he’s through sowing his wild oats, he’s going to marry Low. Marcus intends to change that assumption for both Cage and Low. Until his carefully laid plans come crashing down with a revelation he never expected. He’ll have to choose between Low or his family. Because once the truth comes out.... there’s no other choice.

    "YA Well Done!"

I have come to enjoy YA even though I am not a YA. They have their good and not so good points. This book is very well done, great characters with a lot of story around them, good narration (this is just personal to me but I don't care for the gentleman that narrated; great as a guy but hate his girl voices) anyway, nothing should get in the way of the story and nothing does. It is a rich plot with twists I never saw coming. YA books tend to move a little slower but I just had to know what happened to these characters. For me no matter what the genre that is the mark of a good story. Well done and thank you!

The narrators did a fabulous job narrating this story. I love Kirby's accent but they both did a wonderful job bringing the story to life. I was immediately captivated by Marcus and Low was just such a sweetheart it was hard not to like her. And Cage... Despite his manwhore ways...he really did love Low and was a great friend to Her. I wished I had a friend like him in my life! Great story!

    Story
"Low gets "High" marks for refreshing plot...."
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

    “Because of Low.”

Written neatly and from the perspective main characters Marcus and Willow, the book is one of the simpler love stories out today which is a bit refreshing.
Boy meets girl, they fall in love, but there are these breath catching moments where you are almost positive the ending may not be the ending you are hoping for....and it just may not be. ;)
Willow’s circumstances finds her with her childhood BFF, Cage. I would almost call them soul mates without the sexual relationship. Maybe soul-BFF's?
Marcus is Cage's roommate. Cage is overwhelmingly sweet to Willow. Everyone Willow meets is sugar sweet to her...maybe because of her history.
The love that develops is mainly easygoing in it's day to day with rough patches exploding from out of nowhere.

Marcus Hardy is the son of a Mercedes dealership owner. He is fun, lighthearted, charming. He found out his dad was cheating on his mom months before the relationship with Willow began which made him drop out of school to go home and take care of his mom and sister where his dad was failing.
Willow Montgomery is treated horribly by her sister, her only family. She is made temporarily homeless if she doesn't do her sister favors which sends her into the arms and home of playboy Cage York. Cage is adamant that Marcus stay platonic with Willow.

Marcus and Willow’s relationship grows, with each completely engulfed in each other.

Oddly, my fav character was Cage. Good ol’ faithful Cage that has stood by Willow since childhood, and been similar to a brother to her.
Cage is in all kinds of love with Willow, but Willow is not in love with Cage.
I was touched by his love for Willow.

Willow's "life fear" is the fear of abandonment.

What if love for family conflicts with losing the only girl you’ve ever loved? The story follows plot line. It's not the younger side of YA books...more the older side.

Readers will appreciate this book for it's lighthearted, but intermittent intense situations and for its honest characters. It's like a refreshing take on the "story-next-door".

What did you like best about this story?

The best friend plotline. Specifically the "boy" best friend plotline. I can relate.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

“I don’t think I’m making myself very clear Low,” he’d lowered his voice and the effect made goose bumps break out over my body. “I was only interested in one person at that bar last night. I only came to see one person,” he tucked a strand of hair behind my ear and softly caressed my earlobe before tracing the line of my jaw. “I was there for you.” -Marcus
    -------------------------------
“He isn’t like us Low. You know that right.”

I knew what Cage was saying. Marcus was out of my league. He didn’t want me thinking there could ever be anything between me and his roommate. I was low class. Marcus was a rich kid.

    “I’m not stupid Cage.”
― Abbi Glines, Because of Low
    -----------------------------------
“Okay. If you want to do this thing with Marcus then fine. I’ll take it and deal with it. But when he hurts you. When he lets you down, I’ll be here. My arms are always open for you to run into. I want you happy and if you think this asshole will make you happy then fine. You need to live a little too. I can’t protect you from everything, but I can be here to hold you when he breaks your heart.” -Cage

    "Love knows no bound"
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I would recommend this book b/c it's an easy listen and the narrators were great.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Because of Low?

Unconditional loves of Cage and Marcus for Low.

What about Kirby Heyborne and Shayna Thibodeaux ’s performance did you like?

I thought Kirby and Shayna were great. Their voices were perfect for the characters.

    Any additional comments?

A girl from a poor side of town, Willow 'Low', fell in love with a rich boy, Marcus. I heart this story b/c it's realistic but also love conquers all with minor obstacles in their way. I love that Low has a strong personality, knows where she's from, but not afraid to go for what she wanted. Marcus is from a rich family but he is independent from it. His love for Low is endearing and you can't help but root for him. I love the characters in this book. They're very likable.

This is a 2nd book for the Sea Breeze series. I did not read the 1st book. I read this book as it and found that the author wrote this book in a way that the reappearance of previous characters were explained.

If you could sum up Because of Low in three words, what would they be?

    Indulgent, Fun, Romantic

Have you listened to any of Kirby Heyborne and Shayna Thibodeaux ’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Yes - they are growing on me!

    Any additional comments?

Abbi Glines is my newest book obsession! Yesterday I reviewed book one in her Sea Breeze series, Breathe, where met (and fell in love with) Marcus Hardy! (As I mentioned in my review, he was one of the things I loved most about that book – but there was a certain cheese factor that held me back from loving Breathe. Luckily? That wasn’t the case with Because of Low. I LOVED everything about this book. LOVED. (In fact, it’s hard not to gush as I write this review!)

The second book in the Sea Breeze (named after the small town in Alabama where this series takes place) is about Low (Willow) and Marcus! (And Low’s incredibly hot man-whore best friend, Cage!) gone are the cheesy lines of Breathe (“You are my air”… GAG!!) and in their place we have Marcus who is just over his broken heart from Sadie and onto new family problems. We have Low, who has had a pretty rough life and finds comfort with her best friend, Marcus’ roommate Cage.

This story is complex, and full of heartbreak (on so many levels!) But I fell even more in love with Marcus Hardy early on. Abbi Glines has a way of grabbing your heart strings and tugging hard. And it does’t hurt that her heroes are smokin’ hot!! The town of Sea Breeze Alabama sounds so fantastic I wish it were real so I could book my next vacation there!

The narrators have grown on me – it has the same set as Breathe! (I again decided to use my Audible credits for this new guilty pleasure!) It is odd that I was so used to the voices being Jax and Sadie and now they are Low and Marcus – but I got over that quickly. (And the consistency helps!)

Because of Low is a much stronger story on all levels than Breathe, but we get fun glimpses of Sadie and Jax! (Which I hope she keeps up for the remainder of the series!) I would recommend this book to anyone who is a fan of YA! (Especially if you like one with a small amount of steam and a lot of sweetness!)

    "Predictable, worthy of eye-rolls"

I just didn't have much patience for a story that was so predictable that by the first chapter or two I had it all figured out (and it did play out exactly how I thought it would). The relationship between Markus and Willow was fun and romantic, but the overall storyline was one big cliché. Are there really people as shallow out there as Willow's sister and Markus' dad? I found them and the story to be unrealistic. The best thing about this book was the dual narration by Kirby Heyborne and Shayna Thibodeaux (who also narrates under the name of Candace Thaxton).

    "Very YA! Story isn't bad"

Okay, so this series is VERY YA!! I didn't realize when I got the first 2. This book reminded me very much of high school, I don't really care what side of the tracks everyone grew up on, sometimes it does make a difference, but the "rich kids" have crap too, that got quite old. A lot of the story is very predictable but mostly cute. Just 1 sex scene and not overly hot, so...young college maybe?
