She never expected to marry....
Annabel was about to take the veil to become a nun, when her mother suddenly arrived at the abbey to take her home...so that she can marry the Scottish laird who is betrothed to her runaway sister! She knows nothing about being a wife, nothing about how to run a household, and definitely nothing about the marriage bed.
He never expected to fall in love....
From the moment Ross MacKay sets eyes on Annabel, he is taken with his shy, sweet bride...and the fact that she's blessed with lush curves only makes him utter his own prayers of thanks. But when an enemy endangers her life, he'll move the Highlands themselves to save her. For though Annabel's not the bride he planned for, she's the only woman he desires....

This book is such a sweet and tender Highland romance. If you enjoy Cinderella type stories then you will enjoy this one. This book was romantic, funny and because it had a bit of mystery kept my interest throughout. It's really hard not to like this book.
The narrator was wonderful. She did a fantastic job with all the voices and made the listen fast and enjoyable.
This one is too sweet not to give it a listen.
I loved LS's Argeneau vampire books and I love love love a braugh sexy hunky Highlander in a kilt so I preordered this and waited with baited breath and great expectations.
This book was an entertaining, enjoyable, light-hearted fun listen, that had it's moments, however it was all just a bit too 'nice' for my personal taste as I like my Highlanders broody, dark and sexy however Ross was kind, thoughtful and trusting but more of a Prince Charming type. Annabel was sweet, naive, likeable and funny as one minute she is about to be an English Nun then the next minute she's a married woman heading to her husband's castle in Scotland.
There's everything you'd expect from a LS listen - a nice plot with a who, what and why question to ponder over, nice characters, nice H/H but I felt it lacked any sexual tension, awareness or build-up that results in a frantic passion filled chapter or two as desire ignites between them - infact I think this could almost have been a YA listen. The plot seemed to happily meander the listener along but it just didn't raise my blood pressure any (well, maybe that's a good thing tho').?
Narrator did a great job with the many voices required of her.
Worth a credit? If you're looking for a light, enjoyable, easy going listen then Yes you won't be disappointed and for most of us LS's fans it'll be an auto download anyway.
I love books! Audiobooks take stories to the next level. I'm obsessed with Audible and will try to rate all of my books. Happy Listening! ;)
This is a sweeter and more simple highlander story. Barely any historical references and the storyline is quite simple. Pretty much the blurb tells exactly what's going to happen, no complexity in characters or situations. Still it was good and I enjoyed it. The hero was wonderful and the heroine was likable. Actually I would suggest this book to a first time highlander romance listener. The narration was good too, nothing spectacular but good enough to add extra emotion to the story. I would listen to the next book in the series.
I believe in Love at first sight Lynsay Sands brought that with Ross MacKay and Annabel even when they didn't know. Got to love the Scottish Laird.
I really enjoyed this book. Mary Jean Wells did a great job with all the different voices. I will add her to my list of good readers.
Love a story w/ humor,romance,adventure, w/out a lot of bickering,& good deals.
Lynsay Sands is a talented author. I enjoy her lighthearted, humorous work. Today's world is filled with enough strife that it is good to read/listen to stories that put a smile on your face & touch your heart. This story just was not up to her usual talent.
Narrated with more emotion, h/h with stronger personalities, and more humor.
Good voice but not enough emotion; more like reading rather than narrating.
I look forward to better historical romance from this talented author.
Best: The story had some promise (failed to deliver though).
Least: Female protagonist was extremely Mary Sue (please authors: clumsiness is not enough to save your oh so perfect heroine from Suedom). This thing clocked in at 9 hours, give or take, and nothing much happened. Some contrived plot went on in the background, but figuring out early on that it would have no impact whatsoever, I wasn't on the edge of my seat... The resulting boredom made me stop listening about 6 hours in, and I'm not going to finish it.
Not likely. See above re: Mary Sue-ness.
Very odd inflection during dialogue. The female lead sounded like a medieval valley girl half the time, especially every time she said "aye?" as if she was wondering it that was the right answer. When it comes to the male voice I can see the hardship of voicing a man whose every word is "grunted", but I can't help but feel there was a better way to do it than making him permanently constipated and/or suffering from laryngitis. Also pretty sure there were a few words pronounced wrong (not parts of dialogue, so not a result of accents), and that took me right out of the story.
Heavyhanded editor? Different author? Might have made it better, but I think irresistible would be an unattainable goal regardless.
I believe in true love, happily ever after, magic, and laughter. But mostly I believe in coffee.
Lynsay Sands is one of my favorite authors. Overall I give the story a 4 because it was a little predictable. Ok, it was a lot predictable but I enjoyed the story none the less. I look forward to more books authored by Lynsay Sands and think Mary Jane Wells did an excellent job with the narration.
Historical romance junkie. Who doesn't love romance?
This was a fun book to listen to. The narrator was well spoken and did a nice job with all of the characters. She spoke clear and concise and was really good with all the accents
The story was fun and pulled me right into the plot from the first chapter. All the characters were well fleshed out and likable or in some cases unlikable but there was no real tension between the heroine and hero, they were just there. Even though the plot was good and built a little tension with a slight mystery bent the sexual connection was just .....Meh. I never felt a real connection between Annabelle and Ross, they were just thrown together and happen to stick.
It's a good story just not a great one. I think this would be a great book for people who like a light romance.
