His latest case has him chasing ghosts. But the murderer is flesh-and-blood hiding in the ashes....

DCI Harry Grimm is on the cusp of a stunning decision. Considering making his move to the scenic Yorkshire Dales permanent, he ends up reviewing details of a terrible car accident that killed a retired colonel's beloved wife. But when the panicked widower calls the police claiming the deceased woman's spirit is haunting him, the dedicated detective wades in to piece together a less implausible explanation.

With suspicions running high after a cabin on the property burns down, Grimm and his team are shocked to identify the scorched human remains that leave behind a twice-grieving family. And when he uncovers evidence the fire wasn't simple misfortune, the no-nonsense investigator is certain the culprit is more than a ghastly ghoul....

Can he nab the phantom killer before they vanish into thin air?

Fooled me

Thought I had this figured out early on but listened on because Aubrey Parsons is so enjoyable. It was a surprise ending for me.

I am truly enjoying this series.

What a marvelous combo!

I’m thrilled that I’ve found the Grimm books and will read every one of them. I love the characters, the Fells, Gatward and Parsons. Gatward tells a great story and Parsons is one of the best narrators I’ve ever listened to. On to the next books!

Just superb… again….

The DI Grimm series won me over from the very first line of the very first novel…. I feel invested in these characters and am so pleased to have found this author, this narrator and this series… The settings, the personalities and the storylines are intriguing and only build upon my devotion to them after each… I have relistened to each a few times over and just cherish them all. A narrator can make or break a audiobook for me (well-written or not) and Mr. Parsons does such an incredible job of bringing these characters to life…
Highly recommended

I love this series

I'm flying through this series. I love the characters. I think I've said that in almost all my reviews of the books in this series. I keep coming back for more about, Harry, Jaden, Matt, Liz, Jim, Fly and Rachel. Small town mysteries. This one has an edge of a ghost story to it.
Harry may have made his decision on whether or not he's going to stay in Wensleydale.
The end is kind of a cliffhanger, but I have the next book ready!

A fantastic series

I started reading the Harry Graham novels a few months ago the writing is of course superb, but the humor in it makes me at least laugh out loud of course it’s all serious but the interactions of the detectives and their interactions with a book makes you think that it’s a really special series of books. They are not glory depressing etc. you’re in for a treat meeting Harry Graham and Aubrey Parsons is no rations just change the voices are very astonishing.

Another good book in the series

The author further develops characters doctors that have appeared in most of his previous novels. He also continues to develop , The setting as a one of the major characters. It brings to life everything theverything there there continues to be struggles with some differentiation of the different voices in the audio versions but it's difficult with all the different accents to achieve, not to mention the different genders. It's an enjoyable listen, With a good plot.

I give the books in this series a 4 or 5 rating
and, indeed. this one has a lovely , solved haunted house mystery. I like the colorful descriptions of clouds, sky, storms, fields, fells (what is a fell?) people, the new dog, small town and country Life. BUT what about the sheep?
I just listened for the 2nd and 3rd time for the answer. Two books later the sheep are mentioned- more to come, I'm sure.

Excellent series so far; excellent narration

I’ve listened to the series in order through Book 5 now. Something I really appreciate is how the main character has grown over time, and Wensleydale/Yorkshire itself plays a role in this. I also admire the way the plots vary from book to book, as in, it doesn’t seem like the author came up with a great “formula” and is sticking to it. I also love the author’s notes at the end of the stories. They provide a glimpse into how he comes up with stories and they also convey a warmth and graciousness—somehow refreshing nowadays—with which the stories also seem to be suffused.
