"Many spiritual traditions have described our everyday level of consciousness as a kind of dreamlike state—which for many of us feels like a nightmare we can't seem to escape.
Awakening from this dream, explains Eckhart Tolle, starts by coming into a new relationship to the present moment—and discovering who we are beneath the noisy surface of our lives. Recorded at Riverside Church in New York City, Transcending the Ego offers Eckhart's helpful pointers for realizing what he calls our "being nature"—our deeper identity beyond the personal sense of self.
Eckhart begins by describing the suffering inherent in the pursuit of "egoic fulfillment" and how turning to the mind rarely, if ever, produces inspired solutions. In this foundational talk, he shares guidance on remaining rooted in presence as we meet the challenges of our lives, discussing:
"When we relinquish resistance to the present moment, we become the space for whatever arises," teaches Eckhart. Transcending the Ego brings us his insights for the continuous practice of bringing presence into daily life, and exploring the peace and freedom of being.

A bad attitude is like a flat tire, you can't go anywhere until you change it.
Helped to solidify the joy in silence. Ego explained unlike anything before. This was enjoyed and often shared.
Here and now
If you haven't read the Power of now and the new earth you will feel lost. If you have, it's a good listen, but not my favorite.
In the end you realize he has told you nothing, and also everything all at once and therefore a wonderful pointer. Simply nothing to think about. And we begin.
If you are sick of your mind running out of control with thoughts that produce emotions that are not so pleasant and more thoughts and more unhappiness...this will give you the tools to stop the misery and find more peace, love and joy than you can imagine.
I really enjoyed listening to this audio book. Eckhart's sense of humour, in depth analysis of the human minds thought process and his teachings of being in the now is an important topic in our modern day westernised society today. For those that have a little trouble with the negative thoughts that run through their mind daily - Eckhart explains exactly why you do this and what you can do to help yourself.
I really appreciate the practical applicable manner in which the author talks about the Transcendence Presence and ways to become aware of It. And also, how to become aware of the thinking and talking voice in our heads that can often become an obstacle to quietness and stillness.
I chose this book knowing the length of it. I enjoyed it very much because it seems to shorten the Power of Now teaching of ego. I am able to refer back to this shorter book more often which I need at this time.
"E.T Phones Home..."
An excellent companion to the already familiar. Eckhart's humour and wisdom shines through. I'm even a fan of his 'sound effects' and impressions of troubled thought processes. Love it!
