Celebrating 25 Years as a New York Times Bestseller — Over 16 Million Copies Sold

It’s no wonder that The Power of Now has sold over 16 million copies worldwide and has been translated into over 30 foreign languages. Much more than simple principles and platitudes, the book takes readers on an inspiring spiritual journey to find their true and deepest self and reach the ultimate in personal growth and spirituality: the discovery of truth and light. In the first chapter, Tolle introduces listeners to enlightenment and its natural enemy, the mind. He awakens readers to their role as a creator of pain and shows them how to have a pain-free identity by living fully in the present. The journey is thrilling, and along the way, the author shows how to connect to the indestructible essence of our Being, “the eternal, ever-present One Life beyond the myriad forms of life that are subject to birth and death.” Featuring a new preface by the author, this paperback shows that only after regaining awareness of Being, liberated from Mind and intensely in the Now, is there Enlightenment.

Interesting book, but the narration held me back

What did you love best about The Power of Now?

I think a lot of the book was interesting.

Did the narration match the pace of the story?

The narration was the really weak point of the book for me. I understand the narrator wrote the book and is a spiritual teacher, but the slow, monotone pace of the narration was brutal to me. I usually listen either when I'm jogging or before going to bed. I rarely have a problem with my mind wandering with an audiobook, but I would constantly have to bring myself back to reality.

I think I might buy the book and read it because the content did seem interesting, but I do encourage people to listen to the sample before buying to decide if you really want to listen to that style of narration.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

No.

Any additional comments?

I don't normally write reviews, but I wrote this one strictly to encourage people to listen to the sample narration before deciding whether to get the audio version of this book or another version

Mind opening

Great book. Many friends liked it. I can see why. It is mind opening and makes you question. Great aspects in most of the book that you can apply to your everyday life.

Good points for the beginner

I've been reading "enlightenment" books for years, so this one didn't grab me as it likely would many people. Tolle's voice is very soothing, but the male and female co-narrators seemed bored a bit. The chime every few minutes began to be annoying, despite the fact I love (and own) a chime like that. I realize the point it probably to keep people in "the now" but I tend to listen and apply separately.
For me there was nothing new here but it was good to hear it so that I can apply one more perspective to my repertoire. For me, hearing the author's back story was the best, as it shows people you can reach Nirvana from even the lowest of lows - much like N.D. Walsche of the "Conversations with God" books. Overall, definitely a good read.

A modern prensentation of ancient wisdom.

New Age? Quite the opposite. There
is a lot of Buddhism here. If something about Buddhism puts you off, but it seems appealing, maybe try this.

Enlightening

I like the question and answer this book has. Some of the questions asked are the same as I have at the moment. Eckhart's explanation is more understandable if you don't think about it and try to make sense of it. This is the second time I read this book and the experience is more meaningful the second time around. It's challenging to put into practice but I know I will get there eventually.
