This is the first audiobook that I have ordered as a Premium Listener and I regard it as an excellent one. It consists of five lessons given by Jack Kornfield to a group of people during a course of five weeks. It is very well structured and tailored to the beginner?s needs. It discusses various subjects:

? How to deal with feelings
? How to deal with thoughts
? Loving kindness-walking-eating meditation
? Jack Kornfield?s kindness and wisdom. You will soon be feeling that this teacher is talking directly to you.

? Jack Kornfield deals with many misconceptions about meditation, the most important one to avoid being perfectionist and idealistic about it.
? Jack Kornfield explains clearly why meditation isn?t some mystical way to attain extraordinary powers but the art of being here now!
? This audiobook is full with humorous stories that help to convey the message in the most insightful and entertaining way.
It is really a great audiobook. I hope that audible.com will provide us with other Jack Kornfield?s books and my suggestion is ?After the enlightment the laundry?

I've long wanted to go to a retreat where Jack Kornfield offers his insights into meditation. This is almost as good. I return to it often, especially the fourth week's session. Great introduction to vipassana.
This is a joy to listen to again and again.The only possible minus is the bad sound quality of the open mike. However there have been times when I have been present myself at workshops like this and I could not make out more of what was being said than I can on this recording.
I really enjoyed this book. It was very entertaining and full of good insight on how to meditate. Jack is relaxed and often amusing in his narration, i laughed out loud several times. Audio quality is a little poor though, but dont let that put you off! You can actually meditate along with the book too, with instruction from Jack - Great.
If you are interested in learning about meditation, this audiobook is great.
It does not matter that the recording is not as good. The "workshop" sessions have substance!
I have already heard it 4 or 5 times.
This is actually a recording of classes the author conducted at a retreat somewhere -- probably Topanga Canyon or somewhere else that is forever stuck in the 60s. Personally, I was writhing in pain just listening to it because a lot of it is back-and-forth chatter with members of the audience and why on earth would they include that? I would recommend this author's shorter and more-to-the-point "Meditation for Beginners," which is also available here on Audible. But stay far away from this one.
Practical meditation course; simple to follow. its content could be reduced to a few core messages: a) closely follow your breath b) be completely aware of your feelings/thoughts, but don't get distracted and return your attention to your breath.
really annoying for me personally: jack's high-pitch gnarling voice...
but still a good introduction to meditation practice
This is truly the first audio book for which I anxiously waited for the end. It was that annoying! The author's "insight" consisted of little else other than having his audience "listen to yourself breathe." This is not a book, per-se, but a live recording of several talks the author gave to audiences. Consequently, he actually has them meditate five or six times throughout the eight-hour recording. Each meditation lasts 10-15 minutes. That means there is anywhere from 50 to 90 minutes of dead air on the recording! What a waste of time! (for an audio book) The author's voice only added to the discomfort. It is high-pitched, whiney, and he has an infuriating habit of sometimes pronoucing one syllable words as two (e.g. learn is ocassionally pronounced as: 'lear-ern' or see is pronounced 'see-ee') This man is certainly no public speaker. Opt instead for Eckard Tolle's "The Power of Now." It is far more insightful, far more interesting and far more meaningful. And Tolle's smooth voice--unlike that of Kornfield's--will not sound like fingernails being drawn across a chalkboard.
"Very good introduction to Meditation"
Although these talks are based on buddhist meditation and teaching they can be used by anyone who wants to learn how to meditate. Jack provides humour, stories and guidance on meditating and life in general. There is an introductory session followed by 5 lessons in mediation. Each expanding on the last. It's also useful as you get questions asked by people learning to mediate which often help to answer your own problems you encounter.
This is a really enjoyable listen and I would recommend it to everyone.

This book is made very easy by the author and speaker I all his wisdom of years of training simplifies the subject of meditation a book not to put down and one to listen to several times over..
