Publisher's summary

She has hunted him for years. Now if she could only kill him.

Lyssandra’s life is a lie. As a hunter of the Helius Order, she’s dedicated to slaying vampires and protecting the innocent. But she’s also a vampire’s human servant.

If her secret comes out, her own order will execute her. When she finds Asher, she’ll cut out his heart for tying her to him, even if he only did it to save her. Even if it kills her too. But when a young girl is found dead, Lyssandra’s mission is derailed. In the gaping hole where the girl’s heart once was, lies a single red rose. Lyssandra has seen the signature before, left by the vampire who took her uncle’s life.

Karpov is one of the ancients, and his death is the only one Lyssandra wants more than Asher’s. Unfortunately, Karpov is also the only being—dead or undead—who holds the key to Asher’s whereabouts. If Lyssandra ever wants to find him, she’ll have to work with her uncle’s murderer.

Asher’s death could finally bring her peace, but can she accept it when it means leaving her uncle’s killer alive? Or will she fall into his waiting arms, unable to fight the pull of the master and servant bond . . .

Find out in Reign of Night, an epic paranormal dark fantasy packed full of murder and intrigue, with a slow burn, steamy enemies to lovers romance.

Great book made even better by skilled narrator.

I have to confess I read the book and loved it so much that when I saw there was an audiobook available I had to listen too. I think this version is even better! Giving voice to Lyss Kim Bretton is perfectly on point. Dry, damaged and secretive she sounds just like Lyssandra did in my head!
The story is a near perfect epic fantasy and I don't want to give anything away other than to say the characters are well written and the story moves at a great pace with lots of excitement and epic moments.
Kim Bretton made each character different and defined - I particularly liked Karpov!
Can't wait to hear the next one now.

Interesting

I enjoyed the tension of this book between the love interests. This book feels like a high fantasy version of the early Anita Blake novels. I’m interested in going to the next novel

gender swapped witcher

the story itself is wonderful. reminds me of a gender swapped Witcher. but the narrators voice is kinda irritating. I powered thru for the story.

Easy listening.

Great story with mystery and just the right amount of romance thrown in. Interesting characters. The narrator has a unique voice. It took a chapter or two to get used to her tone and fluctuations. But once I did I really enjoyed her voices and the depth she brought to the characters. Looking forward to next book.

Fun fantasy romance

Enjoyed this fantasy romance. Good light reading. Excited for book 2. I’m New to enemies to lovers, but this boom has peaked my interest in the sub genre

The slowest burn...

Ok. I wanted hot vampire romance but got sucked in by the excellent story and lack of pointless world building. Feels like the Witcher, which I enjoyed but man... the romance is painfully slow 🐌
