Student/Teacher romance with lots of bullying
This books is all about the main character getting bullied the entire book. While the title implies a secret society and a murder to solve, it’s so secondary that it’s easily forgotten and does not even get started let alone resolved in this first book. I hated everyone and the student/teacher relationship aspect was a huge turn off. If you dislike gross power dynamics in relationships and reading about being bullied I would skip this one.
