Publisher's summary

Novice spy Jake is ready to be a hero. His boss wants a delivery driver.

Jake tries hard, but spying is a tough job. When a botched pickup and a drunken indiscretion drop him in jail, he's sent to serve his sentence in the Milita. His new commander wants Jake's next tour to be out an airlock without a suit. At least his fellow conscript is friendly, and has a sexy single sister!

But an accidental shooting and a boarding by his old friend Nadine complicate his life. Now the girls don't trust him, Mr. Dashi won't answer his calls, and there are armed ships chasing him through the rings. Is he in trouble? Or was this Dashi's plan all along?

Tired of books where everything that moves gets shot? How about a book where people use their brains? If you like strategy over tactics, and thought before action, The Adventures of a Jump Space accountant series is for you.

Story was good

Narration was not what I would expect from this author. It needs to be redone.

Anther one gets away

Who would have thought that a number cruncher's misadventures while working his way through college and most definitely NOT getting the girl would make for such a fun read?

I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

poor narration

enough said.. 15 words minimum. okay, I'll do it. In my opinion the narration was a distraction from the story not an enhancement to it.

Story is fine performance is odd.

If you are buying this I assume you read or listened to the first book, so you know the style of writing. if you liked the first you will like the second. This review is 4 stars because of the odd voice acting. It sounds like someone who has never done this before.

Good but not great

Not perfect, but then what is? Of the random science-fiction books that I've picked up to listen to while traveling, this was one of the better ones. Not art, but reasonably good entertainment. If you've read the first book in this series, you might be surprised by how different this one is from its predecessor. The first book was much like a novelization of the Infocom game Bureaucracy. This one is more like a story of what happened in a Traveller role-playing game session. Lots of similar terms, technology, etc. Different from the first book, but still worth the time.

Dialogue and narration not always a good combo

The author’s dialogue writing style (things like repeating phrases within 1 or 2 sentences, lack of contractions) combined with the narrator’s style (over enunciation of “t” happens a lot, so important becomes “imporT-TanT” as an example) can become grating to my ear.
This is subjective, though others have mentioned similar reactions.

Book 2 continues to engage and build the story!

This is the first series I have read by Andrew Moriarty and I have enjoyed all of the books thus far. The MC continues to develop, is interesting, likeable, and relatable. I am still rooting for him to succeed to matter how he gets the job done. I look forward to book 3 in the series. Audio Version: William Turbett does an excellent job narrating the book and narrates the entire series. Each character has their own unique voice and the story is easy to follow.

Bad Narrator

I would not recommend a book narrated by William Turbett. He has a delivery of a person who learned English from reading, having never heard a native speaker. He might be trying to create an odd dialect of folks in a far flung future, but it falls poorly on the ears of a person living in the here and now.

Moderately Amusing

This is a great short story for the young adult or teenager. A rather inept spy stumbles through a variety of different situations in space with numerous results.

The narrator did a great job.

I received this book as a free audiobook in exchange for a honest review. Surprisingly, the book was actually enjoyable and intriguing enough that l would like to read/listen to the first and subsequent books.
